How do you fake a sub exploding? And why would Locke do that when he honestly didn't want anyone getting off the Island? At the time of the explosion we didn't actually see the sub blowing up, but rather an explosion in the distance and then some debris. And, more puzzling, Locke was soaking wet, as if he had just been in the water. Since he climbed into the sub from the dock, why did he need to get in the water? Nothing conclusive there, but fun to speculate that he may have faked the sinking.

Why is Ilana clearly against Widmore? In season 5, Bram was trying to recruit Miles away from Widmore. Miles declined because they weren't willing to double what Widmore was going to pay. Ilana is definitely with Bram or should I say was. Aaa, right right. Forgot about all that.

So this whole sideways line story is evidence that Juliet was right. It did work. Cool.

Ooh, I forgot about the Miles thing as well. So we know Ilana is with Jacob, and is not with Widmore. Thus giving us the conclusion, presumably, that Widmore is going to be on MiL's side. Which would make sense because Ben and Widmore wouldn't want to be fighting for the same side.
I also agree with the theory of Widmore's motive that he wants to be the leader of the island again, this time without Jacob giving him orders.

I don't think Widmore wants to be leader of the Others again like he was before. I think he wants in on MIL's offer that he presented to Ben last episode...after everyone leaves, one protector can remain. Basically, the new Jacob. 'Cept Widmore ain't a candidate, not that MIL cares.
Widmore don't wanna be king, he wants to be god. Immortal.

Anyone else pick up on the fact that Widmore had a specific destination on the island he was going to and didn't have time for the people on the beach? Where would he be going? Ah perhaps the Hydra station (where a sub can dock)?
And Fake Lock mentioned he was also going to the Hydra Station and that they were leaving the island... so I think it figures that Widmore is Fake Locke's ticket home although I have no idea how he plans on cramming the entire group into that seemingly tiny sub.
I'm also betting that Widmore and Fake Lock have always been working together since Widmore was NEVER in touch with Jacob as seen earlier in the show.
Thoughts?

Can a sub dock on Hydra Island?
I figured the only dock was outside New Otherton.

I believe as long as it surfaces they can have a life raft bring them to the Hydra island. I thought that Widmore said to Ben off island that he wanted to turn the island into a resort type place where he can get people to pay him loads of money to come and get cured from what ever is ailing them?

I don't think the word "resort" was ever used, but Ben did say Widmore wanted to exploit the Island and its abilities.

First, I really like this episode.
Sorry if this has already been said, but, I think it's pretty clear that this episode gave a BIG clue to what the island is. A prison. See the opening scene with Dr. Linus in the classroom. I think that is why UnLocke keeps telling everyone, Jacob's dead you're free. So this would make Unlocke and others prisoners and Jacob the jailer?
The question is still, who and why?

I think the term "prisoner" would sort of depend on who you ask. For the Losties it seems more like rehabilitation.

I wonder if Sideways Ben has cancer. Rose is terminal as she never made it to the island. Ben, who needed surgery while on the island, seems to be doing just fine in the classroom life. What is up with that?

Buuuut, Ben presumably got his spinal tumor *cough cough* from Jacob (or maybe MIB? The Island itself?) to act as a sign that his time as leader was up.
Jacob/Whatever knew Jack was coming and was a spinal surgeon, though. So he/it knew Ben wouldn't die.
Similar to how Jack got his appendicitis when he did to act as a sign he shouldn't try and leave the Island, but without the Island, he got appendicitis at a much earlier age.

What is up with that? There was a theory last season that the tumor in his spine was caused by Sayid shooting him as a child. I guess we may never know
