Thus far I feel like we have little reason to doubt the Smokey's honesty to a point. It seems like he always keeps his word, even when he threatens to destroy things/people/temples/Jacob and so on. The only dishonest thing I can think of off the top of my head if the 'they have your baby Clair'. A fabrication which we never hear him actually say. Jacob and MIB have a fine tradition here of telling the truth (basically) but leaving out important facts. Going with that trajectory we can assume MIB is telling the truth to Ben but maybe after he leaves the island will be a different place. Maybe sunk. Maybe blown up. Who knows. Kind of like a con man selling you a watch that breaks after a day or two. He told the truth, the watch ticks, but it isn't water proof.

Yeah but this one is a little different. Lock's faith was just that, faith. He had little reason to actually think what he did. Other than the whole 'I can walk thing', which is important. Jack on the other hand had faith because of a culmination of things including his most recent act of vandalism, the lighthouse. A structure which defied all reason. I feel like Lock was the kind of guy who just believed, while Jack needed convincing to get that crazy. A+ Jack still though. Good episode! Well Jack came from a different place, but he's developing...so that's good. I get what you mean with MIL and Jacob seeming pretty truthful thus far, but I can't really take MIL just on "everything he's said so far" because how can we know? He can't follow through on his promises yet. All he's done is make them.

Haha, Batman.... Here's something to discuss: MIL told Ben that someone still had to look after the Island when he and everyone else left. Do you think this is the truth or was it a lie to manipulate Ben? If it was the truth, do you really think MIL meant it when he said he thought Ben was the perfect choice? I'm thinking it has to be a lie. Didn't Ilana say there were only six candidates left to be the replacement for Jacob? Last time I checked Ben wasn't one of them. I guess it is possible she is mistaken but I doubt it. That being said, I'm sticking with Team Unlocke

Some times to a fault.

Also, MIL told Sawyer the Island needing a protector was crap.

Good point. However, if my theory holds, then it will not have a protector in Ben. Just a residential casualty. He said it needs someone in charge, not a protector. MAybe he needs someone to hit the self destruct button or something?

Amazing episode!! The Jack/Richard seen was intense. I really loved Richard this episode, and how we actually got to see into his character more. I felt really sorry for him! I guess it's pretty clear he came on the Black Rock then. And Ben... man... Emerson is such a good actor... It takes some serious talent to make a school-setting plot have an impact similar to what we had on the island with Ben/Alex. Loved it. And of course it couldn't have happened without Arzt Oh and yeah, the Widmore thing was KIIIIINDA cheesy lol. But still very awesome. It was kinda funny like was already said, in a Batman-villain kinda way haha. I can't wait to see what happens with him. Although... WHERE'S DESMOND?!!?!?

Maybe Widmore kidnapped a Desmond? Maybe maybe?

I thought Desmond and Big W came to some good terms now that Des is the father of his grandson? Can't quite recall... I hope he is fine. Des and Penny 4ever. Those two had me after 'The Constant'. If he kidnapped him it would be very un-grandfatherly, even for a dude as hard as Widmore. He seems to really care about family.

So, the island sunk after Ben was on the island and then apparently left. Without Sayid to kill Ben he didn't take the bad path and they left the island somehow.
Also, I loved the whole:
Ben on the island chooses the Power he had on the island over Alex and she dies.
Ben off the island chooses Alex over an opportunity for Power and has no regrets.
Also, Ben on the island felt like he had a thankless job and was completlely unappreciated by Jacon. Off the island he has the total appreciation of his students.
I'm totally convinced now that the sideflashes are really the end of the story, that at the very end of the finale we'll find that the island part of the show is all leading up to something that happens that results in everyone on 815 never crashing and having all the redeeming moments we are seeing in the side flashes.

Overall I liked the episode, the part where Ben tried to deny he killed Jacob was a little bit of bad acting. Is it bad that I want that dynamite to blow up after Richard and Jack thought it wasn't going to. I know Jack has more to do, but I feel they could of really shock us and still had a great ending to the story. Alana says theres 6 canadates left, so they must be Hurley, Jack, Sawyer, (Jin/Sun)Kwon, Kate and Sayid. Interesting that Sayid is still a canadate and that Kates number has nothing to do with the numbers. P.s. that school must of been broke that laptop the principal had was ancient and if the school had any money he seemed like he would be the guy to get stuff first

I thought Desmond and Big W came to some good terms now that Des is the father of his grandson? There's a chance Widmore doesn't even know about Charlie, I think, actually.... When Desmond went to see Widmore in the UK Widmore asked if Penny was alright. And he and Desmond didn't exactly get along in that scene. Plus when Desmond was in the hospital, Widmore didn't even go inside to see Penny.

Anybody else think Widmore was making a straight line to the Hydra station to see MiL? I mean Widmore has always mentioned this pending battle. He WAS banished, but now with Jacob dead he can return. I personally think Widmore had a long standing deal with MiL so that he could pursue whatever desires he had (Penny's mother, a huge global empire, etc.)

I figured Widmore was heading to the dock outside New Otherton. Although granted that's not a very interesting spot....

The freighter came to the island to kill Ben on Widmores orders we could clearly see Ben on the beach, so what's he here this time for?
