Even though i despise Zep, and Jack had my #1 and 3 if i were to do my list (Beatles, Beach Boys), overall i think Jay's list is superior. Although no one cares, my list would be:
1. Beatles 2. Pixies 3. Beach Boys 4. Os Mutantes 5. Foo Fighters 6. The Bad Plus 7. Weezer 8. The Clash 9. The Kinks 10. They Might Be Giants

In Jay's defense, he stated that he didn't want to give the obvious answers to the "greatest" bands, just what he considers to be his favorites.

[ yeah, I was definitely more excited for the Kinks than for Van Halen to be on either list, once I heard that playing...I'd definitely rather listen to the Kinks than Van Halen on any given day. But, it's not my ramblecast nor my top 10 so it's not my call. Actually, I've seen the Kinks and Van Halen. And I enjoyed both. But if someone offered me tickets to shows by both tonight and I had to choose which one to attend, it would definitely be the Kinks. But I'd pick the Beatles over everyone else. I've only seen 1/4 of them (McCartney, of course), but I loved all 3 shows. I'd go see him again in a heartbeat.

I bailed on my freshmen homecoming game to see my 1st concert. I was 15 in 1974. That was the only year that George Harrison ever went on tour as a solo artist. Until he Toured Japan in 1989 (I think.) I never regretted it. I saw Paul McCartney & Wings in 1976. (Probably the most memorable concert I ever saw.) since then I've seen him 3 more times. Ringo started touring with his All-Starr Band in 1989. I've seen him 3 times since then. Never got the chance to see John Lennon. But in 1999 after nearly 35 years Brian Wilson went on tour. That show was Assume. I was forcenet enough to Fly from Portland down to Hollywood to see Brian's return to the Roxy on the Sunset strip. All together I've seen him 4 times. I could go on & on. Van Halen, Sammy Hagar AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Arrowsmith, & more! The Beatles were the Best thing that ever happened in the 20th century!

Jay, you couldn't be more correct in your #1 choice, but over all I have to vote for Jack's list.
I can't believe neither of you included THE WHO!?

Although he did have a bad throat on that tour, it was his only U.S. tour, how sad. Plus Ravi and Billy Preston were on that tour! Where did you see him? Do you remember alot about it? But yeah, I've Paul lots of times, he always puts on a great show. Never seen Ringo. And I've wanted to see Brian Wilson, especially the 'SMiLE tour" but he never seems to come to the south. I'm a concert junkie aswell, but I have way too many to list. ;D

I'm a concert junkie aswell, but I have way too many to list. ;D I saw both George & Wings at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. At the Harrison concert there was still a lot of Hippie's around. In the line outside it was raining & people kept passing me joints & pipes full of hash. But I kept saying NO because I was a good Mormon boy. (That would all change by the time I say Wings). & YES, your right! Ravi Shankar was there, & everyone from his Bangladesh line up & more. His band played a song that went "Zoom Zoom Zoom, da da de da dom dom" or something like that. When George took the stage the girl next to me fainted! I said "Is that him"? He had on a Yellow long sleeve shirt & denim overalls. (I think) & he looked pale & smaller than I expected. & Yes his voice was toasted! Billy Preston stole the show. With his big Afro & all his dancing around. If not for him the show would have sucked. But it was still worth it. Also in the band was a saxophone player named Tom Scott. Better known from L.A. Express & I think he was part of the Blues Bros. Band. (Not the Movie.) I'm not sure but I think he's the only person to record with all 4 solo Beatles. He's also well known for his TV theme songs, like "Baretta", "Cannon", "Streets of San Francisco", & “Barnaby Jones”, to name a few. And Yes I saw Brian Wilson preform Smile here in Portland. what a treat after all these years. Yeah I can remember a lot form the old days. Not bad for a guy older than Jack.

One of my biggest regrets is that I didn't see Harrison on this tour. He played in Tulsa, OK about 2 hours from where I grew up (Norman, OK). I would've had to lie to my parents and convince a friend to go, but it would have been worth it.

+9 for Mr.G Man for sharing a great story about one of my heroes! Yeah, I think you're right about what he wore that night. I've got a bootleg of the Vancouver opener show, but the audio is terrible, and he's wearing the same on the album cover (A yellow long sleeve t-shirt with a picture of Krishna on it with overalls). I really wish someone or the Harrison estate would release a good live album from that tour, not to mention an anthology. It is weird how skinny he was in the 74-76 era. I look at pictures of him and just amazement, a skeleton. But he was going through a rough time in 74-76, his wife left him for Eric Clapton and he was being sued. That's one reason he did the tour, it was supposed to be a spiritual tour, A "Dark Horse" way of saying I've stepped out of the shadow of the Beatles and I'll step out of this now. I'm a bit of a George geek Oh, You're never too young or too old to rock 'n roll, my friend! ;D

This was surprisingly closer than I would have expected - and I love that Jay got Radiohead & Floyd in there...and while I wouldn't put them in the top 10 - I almost voted for him just out of appreciation for the Faith No More mention...
...but - I had to go with Jack on this one. Obvious choice or not, it all begins and ends with the Beatles.
I do realize just how hard this was for both of the fellahs...I tried to do a top ten...but I had to come up with...a top 30! Being in my mid to late 30's - I think I straddle the "old stuff" with the "new stuff" fairly well.
As for my Top Thirty:
30. The Walkmen 29. The Caesars 28. Weezer 27. The Beach Boys 26. Audioslave/Soundgarden (a Cornell-ian tie) 25. The Cars 24. Spoon 23. The Talking Heads 22. Green Day 21. Stone Temple Pilots 20. Creedence Clearwater Revival 19. The Flaming Lips 18. REM 17. The Police 16. Pearl Jam 15. Guns n' Roses 14. The Clash 13. The Ramones 12. Pink Floyd 11. Nirvana 10. The Who 09. U2 08. Nine Inch Nails 07. The White Stripes 06. Electric Light Orchestra 05. The Rolling Stones 04. Radiohead 03. The Kinks 02. Led Zeppelin 01. The Beatles
Band I might have included, but they're a tad bit overrated: The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, The Strokes
Band I might have included, but they're WAY overrated: Boston (which is a nice way of saying "I HATE Boston.")
Band I might have included, but they're more of a novelty: The Traveling Wilburys
Bands I might have included based on their EARLY work - but their later work spoiled it: Aerosmith, Van Halen
