I find it kind of strange that the messages are almost 1/2 and 1/2, or even Star Wars a little ahead. But then when you look at the votes... "cummulatively took a thumpin' " ha ha I say LOTR all the way. I saw the Star Wars growing up, they were okay, never captured my attention for long enough to stay in the room for the whole movie though. :-) Actually my favorite old space movie is "The Last Starfighter" that is an AWESOME space movie.
Anyway, I think when you look at the origin of the stories there is no doubt which is better. LOTR is a litterary classic, it DEFINED a whole generation, not only in literature, but Fantasy in general. Look at D&D, all was based on the initial races that Tolkien created. He opened up a new world of fantasy that has inspired generations of writers and students to love reading.
No contest.... LOTR!

I vote for lord of the ring .
I love this story!! themes are unniversal and I find myself in every character and every action . Lord of the ring it's a poetry, a dream, and I don't find a word to describe my feelings about this story. The story never leave me it's my drug lol
Peter jackson made a great job !!! I watch and watch again his trilogy . He has perfertly broadcast lord of the ring's feelings and magic!!!
Much movies like star wars exist thanks to Lord of the ring and JRR Tolkien. Never Star wars was good like Lord of the ring exept for special effect who allow to peter jackson to make his lord of the ring trilogy
I'm a ringer and I'm proud of that!!!!

My vote is for LOTRs, I like Star Wars, but the story in lotr and the characters I found myself more able to relate to. Also I found the story, and dialogue from lotr more appealing. Some of the lines in Star Wars seem forced.
All in all I like LOTR alot better, I couldnt stop crying in the last movie, which doesnt happen often, so my vote is LOTR.

Both series went downhill from the first. Star Wars later added ridiculous CGI effects, but LOTR had the added, extended cave troll battle in the first movie.

I had to vote for Lord of the Rings. While I have always liked Star Wars, I've loved Lord of the Rings from the moment my friend sat me down and forced me to watch the first film. After that I had to read the books and I couldn't wait for the other films to be released. Star Wars is great, and when I watched the first trilogy it was some great father/daughter bonding. However, there is no question. Lord of the Rings.

I used to be the HUGEST Star Wars Fanboy, until I saw the Fellowship of the Ring. Then I was Hooked. As good as the Theatrical versions of LotR were, the Extendend Cuts are Soo Much better. Usually when you have a movie cuts out parts of the movie, there is a good reason because the cut scene most likely sucked, but in the case of LotR, The Cuts made movies Flawless.
I Thought although the ending of Stars Wars good, it was pretty anticlamitic to Empire. Whereas, the ending of Return of the King so good that when Gollum and the Ring go down in the Lava (sorry for spoiling it for you Jack!), I felt relief as if I was part of the journey. Then you get the two great scenes when Aragorn and all of Gondor neal to all of the hobbits and the scene where Gandalf, Frodo, and Bilbo leave for the Grey Havens. Those scenes almost brought me to tears.
So Althought I still LOVE all the Star Wars Movies, They are no match for Lord of the Rings

LOTR is my vote. It is an epic on every level - ensemble acting, cinematography, story/script, music/sound and over all VISION. Star Wars had the potential for this, but the execution of the films got way too involved w/ the super digital/computer stuff and too far away from good acting and story...music is great, but sad to see the lost potential...the movie stories became about the special effects....in my ever so humble opinion.

This one was an easy choice for me hands down. My vote goes to Star Wars. I saw the first movie when I was an infant. I was crying and whining as all babys do but as soon as the movie started I was so quiet that my mother had to check to see if i was alive, she said I just stared at the screen the entire time. Star wars RAWKS!!!
