PogsKlinc, didn't you mention a while back that you were reading To Kill a Mockingbird? How did you like it? Did you ever see the movie? Hey shrimp.gone.wrong...the book for next month is a book called Just Breathe Normally. It's a memoir. It probably isn't a bad book, I think I'm just a little bit tired of memoirs right now. And like I mentioned, earlier I haven't been reading too much lately...I go in spurts, some months i'm reading like crazy and other months I'm lucky if I get through a whole book. Eh, I still have a few weeks to see if I want to read the book. Hope you are enjoying your birthday weekend .

Okay, I finished The Crying of Lot 49 yesterday. ACK! It was such a tightly woven story but, dang Pynchon, it ends right at the most climatic part of the story! It's like reading a murder mystery only to get to the end of the novel and have the story end right when the murderer is revealed. I did like the story though. I just wish I knew... who the mysterious bidder at the auction would have been? What there really a rival postal system of Trystero to Thurn and Taxis that survived into present day? How does the Yoyodyne corporation figure into this? Or was it all an elaborate scam by Pierce Inveriarity to pull one over on the protagonist Oedipa? If the WASTE system exists, did those postal carriers ever receive garbage by those not in the know who assumed the postboxes were regular trashcans?
Overall, it was a pretty entertaining read.

PogsKlinc, glad you enjoyed both the book and the movie! I really think they did a great job keeping the story intact in the movie. Finished "Hero with a Thousand Faces" by Joseph Campbell. Getting onto "Stranger in a Strange Land" (a classic) and then getting onto Oriental Mythology by Joseph Campbell. Sounds like you have quite a reading list there...how is it going so far? I haven't started reading anything new yet. Have been getting over a sinus/respiratory infection since last week, so I haven't felt much like reading or doing much of anything involving concentration. Hey shrimp.gone.wrong...haven't heard from you in awhile. Whether you are still plowing through Gravity's Rainbow or taking a break from reading, hope your New Year is off to a good start (or at least better than mine has been so far).

I know I don't post on these forums much, but I thought I'd drop by and share what I'm reading. I am currently reading The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, and it is AMAZING! King never fails to amaze me, and you can really tell the influence these books have had on Lost. I recommend you are familiar with some King works though, especially The Stand (another great one).
Next on my list: Slaughterhouse Five, Watchmen, Inside out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd

Hey! I'm kinda taking a break from reading =(. My homework amount has increased, finals are coming up, and I'm helping out with organizing my high school's Battle of the Bands.
But I'll get back to GR after finals, for sure!
Duude, thewootinater! Have fun w/ Slaughterhouse Five. And Watchmen! The first one was the first Vonnegut book I read, it's pretty darn good. And Watchmen, is pretty darn fantastic as a graphic novel. Well written, great plot, and the ending is amazing!

It's been awhile since I've read anything by Stephen King, but he definitely knows how to put together a great story. Hey! I'm kinda taking a break from reading =(. My homework amount has increased, finals are coming up, and I'm helping out with organizing my high school's Battle of the Bands. But I'll get back to GR after finals, for sure! Duude, thewootinater! Well written, great plot, and the ending is amazing! Good to hear from you! I also had to take a break from reading. First it was because of the holidays and then I got really sick and it has been a trial to just get well and muster enough concentration just to get through the day and get stuff done at work when I did finally go back. I'll probably start reading something next month. Good luck w/ the Battle of the Bands things, that sounds pretty awesome to be a part of organizing such an event. I've had to plan large scale events before and I know it can be nerve racking, but it also can be a lot of fun, so I hope that you're enjoying every bit of it. I'm sure it'll be great! Let us know how it turns out. And good luck w/ finals.

I am reading Breaking Dawn right now...I hate but I tend to read when I am motivated but I am starting to dwindle on my Twilight phase of life, but hopefully I will finish.
Also my friend let me borrow a book called "the perks of being a wildflower" which seems interesting

Windows Server 2008 Administrator...School book.
When I'm not doing homework="Harry: A History" recommended in by Colleen. Really great read, I love the books, but have not gotten into them as much as I have with Lost. It's interesting to read about a whole world I had no idea existed.

Windows Server 2008 Administrator...School book. That sounds like tons of fun there jlyn. I'm back in the reading game and am reading Apparition Hill by Mary Ruefle. It's a poetry collection and it's challenging as hell. I rarely read poetry but my discussion group is reading it and it decided to give it a go to make myself read something outside my comfort zone. I still don't quite get some of the poems, but there are a few that have clicked with me.

Finished Slaughterhouse-Five and loved it! Had to write a comparison/contrast essay and decided to do it on Billy Pilgrim and Desmond Hume.
Still to read: 1984, On Writing, Watchmen, Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd

I'm currently reading Kevin Smith's My Boring Ass Life. Which is basically a bunch of his blogs from different points of time from Jason Mewes' drug recovery to work on Clerks II it's really intresting and roll on the floor laugh worthy. I defenitly recommend it if you love Kevin Smith movies although word to the wise this book is extremly explict and don't read it if you don't like Kevin Smith's humor..

If you're a Kevin Smith fan you should be listening to his podcast "Smodcast." Talk about roll on the floor funny. I just finished the Star Trek: Destiny trilogy. The verdict: for fans only, kinda long and predictable, but not terrible for die hards desperate for new Trek.
