First post I thought I'd start by not talking about Lost (!)
LOTR gets my vote. I'm not the biggest fan of sci-fi, though I appreciate the technical achievments of Star Wars, and I'm currently watching Heroes.
The prequels ruined the SW franchise for me and Lucas went back and changed the music at the end of Jedi in the remastered edition, totally ruining the Ewok folk music. Unforgiveable!

I have to go with Star Wars since I haven't seen LOTR yet. Ahhh...you're missing out! Set aside a whole day if you going to attempt all three at once! ;D

if it was the original SW trilogy against the LOTR trilogy, then I would have voted SW. By adding the crappy prequels, I had no choice, but to go with LOTR.
thanks Greg

I can't believe this is even close. I mean, Jar Jar Binks? Ewoks? Little boy Anakin? I mean, George Lucas managed to make Samuel Jackson into a wooden dialog wuss. On the other hand, in LOTR you get the Cave Troll, you get Gollum, you get Gandalf, you get scary Bilbo reaching for the Ring, you get the whole Rohan set, you get Liv Tyler. Gandalf's speech to Pippen about "The End" was worth the whole 11 hours on its own...

Its a tough choice, but I remain loyal to Star Wars. At least in the SW movies you actually see the bad guys(vader & emperor) for more than 30 seconds. You can't get much badder than Emperor Palpatine!
