1. Damien Jurado (very unknown artist, but very good....sounds kind of similar to Bob Dylan and Nick Drake....folky) 2. Pearl Jam (new cd comes out may 2) 3. Led Zeppelin (i grew up listening to them, my favorite song is probably Fool in the Rain...Robert Plant sang with Pearl Jam recently at a concert in Chicago) 4. Silverchair (Australian band, their cd Diorama has amazing songs with amazing orchestra compositions...their earlier cds are kind of grungy) 5. Pedro the Lion (an great band with great lyrics)

I am a huge music fan, I even worked in he music industry for a long time (booked concerts), so making list is hard, but here it goes, I have to divide it into catagories....
Top 5 best bands to ever exist: 1. Beatles (seriously, not one bad song) 2. Led Zeppelin 3. Stevie Wonder 4. Radiohead 5. John Coltrane
Top 5 Fav bands right now: 1. Wilco 2. Beck (sea change is one of my all time fav albums) 3. Sufjan Stevens 4. TIE:Iron and Wine and Deecemberists 5. Death Cab For Cutie/Postal Service( I know that has become cliche but I've been into these guys a long time)
Top 5 fav hip-hop: 1. Tribe Called Quest 2. Jurassic 5 3. Blackstar (Mos Def and Talib Kwali) 4. Jay-Z (commercial but awsome) 5. The Roots
Top 5 Country: 1. Lyle Lovett 2. Robert Earl King 3. Bruce Robinson 4. Willie Nelson 5. Rosie Thomas

1. Reel Big Fish 2. Ween 3. Cky 4. The Get Up Kids 5. Misc.
It's really hard for me to find that 5th band that I could listen to over and over again. I listen to a lot of music.

I saw the Pixies do a sound check, with just me in the audience......I booked a concert with them at my last job. It was awsome.
AlysheaNW- I also did a show with the Violent Femmes, I hope I don't ruin this for you but......they were the biggest jerks in the world. Not to mention they refuse to talk to eachother.......They don't get along. Seperate rooms, seperate cars....they only talk on stage. Its weird

Its weird I've heard stuff about Gordon & Brian not getting along... And I think it has definitely affected the music. But as much as I love the guys, it is probably about time for them to hang it up anyway. I have seen them in concert about a dozen times, and over the last few years the shows have really gone down hill. I am the biggest Femmes fan I know (have all their albums including the new ones and the imports, even have the first couple albums on vinyl), and even I was bored at the last show I went to. It's really hard to have fun when it is obvious the guys on stage aren't having any.

Thank God for bluelabel! I thought I was going to get all the way through this thread without seeing a single list containing The Grateful Dead! Good man, bluelabel.
Can I do my top 5 top 5 lists?? No? Okay then just two lists.
These aren't necessarily my favorites at the moment but I think they are by far the 5 most influential:
1. Beatles/Lennon 2. Grateful Dead 3. Zeppelin 4. Hendrix 5. Nirvana 6. Elvis Presley (I couldn't leave out Elvis but I couldn't eliminate anyone else)
And now for my top 5 current favorites:
1. John Lennon 2. Grateful Dead 3. Smashing Pumpkins 4. Rush 5. Incubus 6. Coheed and Cambria (if you haven't heard them and you like rock or metal, check them out!) 7. The Doors 8. Violent Femmes 9. MXPX 10. Radiohead 11. William Shatner (yes, THAT William Shatner) 12. Lynyrd Skynyrd 13. Elvis Costello 14. Dave Matthews Band 15. Phish 16. David Bowie 17. A Perfect Circle 18. 311 19. Alice In Chains 20. Bush 21. Cake 22. Nine Inch Nails 23. Portishead 24. Poe 25. Beastie Boys 26. Tenacious D 27. The Get Up Kids 28. The Temptations 29. Tool 30. Weezer
I think that might be more than 5. Not sure. Oh well.

Hmm...
This seems like it should be easy. I mean, number one is easy and number two is rather simple to pick, but the list starts to get harder from there... Although I bet my list will not match anyone else here at all. Heh
All Time: 1. Underworld (not including the Pre-DJ days) 2. The Beatles (need to say nothing more) 3. David Bowie 4. Prince 5. “Weird Al” Yankovic
Current (excluding the above): 1. Jonathan Coulton 2. Babble (has a habit of hopping into the 5th spot above) 3. Dagda 4. The Orb (also has a habit of hopping into the 5th spot above) 5. Jack Wall
