forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3137386I haven't looked through that whole thread, but the first post at least compiles a list of the major things that Darlton have said they specifically are not going to answer and what they specifically are going to answer in the final season. So I guess this gives us a little peek into what to expect! Thoughts?

But it's because they already did...in the ARG.... I forgot ARG's aren't canon! Darlton said so! That mean's that the only true explination will come from the show... right?

They said the information given in the first ARG was canon, just not how it was shown...the numbers are canon, just not necessarily the character of Rachel Blake and everything she did.
At any rate, they said they wouldn't explain the numbers because they already did...in the ARG. They figured only true fans would really care about that stuff so that's how they chose to explain that aspect of the show.

Well they could explain it away by saying that the numbers are simply the serial number of the Swan Station .The ones that bother me are What the island really is and where it gets its powers .

Yeah what the island really is seems like something major they should definitely answer. I flasback to the WGA strike and Carlton Cuse had a sign that said "Don't you want to know what the island is?" And it had a doodle of the island. Seems to me that they should definitely answer that. It irratates me.

Island -- Darlton seem to give the miticlorian debate when it comes to explaining the Island.
There really couldn't be any way to explain in without having some sci-fi/fantasy explanation, so I'm good just leaving it up in the air and letting it lie.
I don't need Narnia explained. Or Oz. Or Wonderland. Or Neverland. The Island's not much different for me. What's on the Island, however...that I'd like explanations for.

Totally with you on that thebeatlesremain. I don't necessarily need it nailed down and tied up in a neat little bow, but I DO need SOME kind of answer. It's kind of the main mystery of the whole shebang. It's not some magical alternate realm with societies and alien creatures. It's a freakin' island. So WTF?

Why is it just an island? It moves, both in space and time, has weird smoke monsters, ageless beings, a group of hostile Others, ancient artifacts, and a mess of other crazy crap. That to me just screams alternate realm with societies and alien creatures.... I'm not saying some down to earth explanation wouldn't be nice, but I'm kind of okay with it not being fully explained. I don't think it is the whole mystery of the show. To me, there are better fish to fry. Also: Lindelof talks about the numbers and various other interesting things, like Libby and Eko: spoilerslost.blogspot.com/2009/05/damon-lindelof-on-libby-numbers-mr-eko.html

No just about it. But still an island.

One more things needs to be resovled:
WTF happened when Faraday launched that beacon back in season 4 and it came like 32 minutes later, and then he said in the jungle that "the light doesn't scatter quite right."
They need to explain this! They need to explain the differences in time between the island and the outside world!

What explaination would there be for such a thing, though?

I'm not sure, but I think it should be answered.

The explanation would be "The Bloody Snow Globe" if you will. What keeps the island unseen from the rest of the world - call it a dome - also messes with time dilations and the way that white light is defracted - kind of like a prism. .
