Ok, so Amy and Horace's baby was born in 1977, right? Ethan kidnaps Claire in 2004, right?
This means the adult Ethan is either 26 or 27 when we see him in Season 1. Which, he's obviously not.
William Mapother (who plays Ethan) is 43. He was 38 or 39 when Season 1 was shot.
Am I crazy? Is my math wrong?

I'm with you. No way is he that young. I just watched the episode where he helped recruit Juliet which would have been pre-2004 (2001ish?) and he absolutely looked to be late 30s/early 40s. If he was born in 77, he'd be 24/25ish and he was supposedly already a top doctor? I highly doubt it.

"Time is the essence" - I think that quote will resonate stronger after we see more of this season.

I disagree. I think he can pass as late 20s in 2004.

I just have a hard time explaining the wrinkles on the forehead and under the eyes of a 20-something.

I think you guys are getting too mired in the details. In one of the podcast Damon and Carlton said that when the show first started that they had no idea where they were going with it - it was all very open ended. They also said that there would be a lot of loose ends tied up and that there would be a lot of questions left unanswered. But I think the fact that Hollywood in general casts a lot of people in roles where there is a huge age discepancy is something we need to keep in mind here. We need to view this in light of the story arc not the true details about an actor's age. Just my opinion.

I'm not the kind of viewer who normally nitpicks details when I'm watching TV. But this particular show has set the bar so high for itself, in terms of attention to detail, that when they do make a continuity error, however minor it may seem, it's that much more unsettling. I've come to expect perfection from LOST, and with that mindset, any imperfections in the details can actually diminish the credibility of the story arc.

Trying to pass Ethan off as someone in his young 20s when he first meets Juliet (Not in Portland) is just laughable.

I still have some faith in the writers... They already said the Charlotte age thing was a mistake and "the character" was officially born in 1970. I feel like they wouldn't let that happen twice since we JUST found out the baby was Ethan and we have known Ethan since season 1. mmmm please don't make a mistake with this one too You guys have been SO good with details, please don't drop the ball.

You think that is bad with Ethan, try watching the movie "Taken". Maggie Grace plays the role of a 17 year old girl. We all know she is obviously not 17 and she acts like she is 12 in the movie. Very awkward.
As far as Ethan, maybe he looks more aged due to hard drugs, drinking and smoking? Maybe he lived a harsh lifestyle for a while and then quit it to become a doctor for the others.
