After listening to the new podcast I figured I'd take the plunge and start up a thread for all the Con newbies. I hope this is the right section but if it isn't just let me know for the future and someone can move it.
Anyway, I thought this would be a group collaboration with everyone chipping in posting their own tips and tricks for surviving the hectic, although greatly enjoyable, weekend. I'll start compiling and posting a list of my own soon enough, just thought I would start the thread now to get a head on things.
As for the actual Lost panel, it's scheduled for Saturday. We don't have an exact time or room but I'd wager Ballroom 20 for where and it's rumored to be around 12 noon to 1pm. Since it's Saturday and the Lost panel I'm guessing the line is going to be long and people will be waiting to get in early. When I say early, I mean that people are going to be there before the convention center even opens. I think the Heroes panel is going to be right before the Lost one and it should be the first panel in Ballroom 20 for the day so I'm assuming a lot of people will stay through from that for Lost. If you want a good seat for the Lost panel I suggest you get there for Heroes and sit through that. I don't think this is a problem for a lot of people since the fandoms kind of cross over.
Personally, I'm planning on getting there early, maybe somewhere around 6 in the morning depending on how the line looks from the hotel window. I'd be glad to hold spots in line for J&J crew. I'll certainly be wearing my J&J shirt, perhaps the Save Log Carrying Guy one if it ships by then. So if you see someone with a J&J shirt come on up and say hello and you can get in line. I remember last year this is how it worked, in fact, that's when I first met J&J and got into the show, so thanks to all you guys and gals in line who made the 4 hour wait bearable. Hope to do it again this year.
So, yeah, looking forward to the Con and I hope us regulars can make it easier on the newbies because it can be very overwhelming at first and if you don't prepare or know what to expect then that can detract a bit from your enjoyment. Not to say you won't still enjoy yourselves, just that with planning you can get the most out of the Con which is what we all want.

That is very good advice. Last year I posted suggestions to help first-timers and so I am going to put a copy here to make it easier for everyone. Any of you who have things to add, please do so that we can cover all the info and make CC a great experience for everyone. A few years ago I went to my first Comic Con and my friend gave me great advice. A few people from the boards have had similar questions so I thought I would post some (hopefully) helpful info. What to bring: First and foremost, bring your most comfortable shoes. You will be walking and standing a lot. Along the same vein, T-shirts are the norm. There are a number of people who will be in costume and if you feel like it, by all means, bring one. But the most people will be in T-shirts and jeans or shorts. Comfort is key. The days are going to be long so keep that in mind when planning wardrobe. Bring a backpack. They come in handy for your program guides (you will get one when you check in at registration), pens, cameras, snacks, and freebies that you will receive. Pens and/or highlighters also come in handy. There will be many panels to see and some will overlap or be back to back. It helps you keep track if you highlight the things you are interested in. They have daily schedules each morning that have a chart of all the panels that makes it easy to see what is when and where. Transportation: Many of you will be flying in and some will be driving. If you drive or rent a car, you will probably have parking fees. There are a few lots with free parking, but mainly there will be charges. It usually runs from $3-15. There is also a trolley that runs near most of the hotels in the area and stops at the convention center. Go here for more info: www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_park.shtmlFood: At the convention center there is your usual convention food: pizza, nachos, sandwiches, pretzels, sodas for typical overpriced charges. My friends and I usually get a big breakfast and take some snacks with us for the day. Then at night we will go get a decent dinner in the area or near our hotel. There are lots of places to eat in the area, including a food court at a nearby outdoor mall. During the day bring easy to carry snacks like nuts or crackers and make sure to bring and drink water throughout the day. Going with a friend or group of friends: There is so much to see and do; something for everyone's tastes. My friend told me my first year that he would be attending panels that I might not want to attend. That was fine because there were ones that I wanted to see that he did not. So, if there is something you want to see and your companions don't, go by yourself. You will enjoy it and you may even make some new friends. If your companions are seeing something you are not interested in, see another panel or go down to the exhibition hall and get some freebies. On the other hand, if you want to attend the same panel, you can either take turns holding places in line for major panels or if one of you is in another panel when one starts lining up, then the other can hold a place in line. I think there are a number of folks from this board attending, so you may even want to plan to meet up and various times and there maybe someone from here that wants to attend something you want to attend. That also works for those attending on their own. I know I am rambling, but the point that I am trying to make is that you are going to have fun no matter who attends what panel or event with you. Make your own plans and if others have the same plans, then great, if not you'll have stories to share with them later. I hope this has been helpful. If I wasn't clear or if you have any other questions, please feel free to PM me or ask here. There are several of you who have already attended CC before, so if you can think of any other items that I have not covered or if you have any corrections to make, please do so. I know it's a bit convoluted and I tend to ramble on a few points, but I just want everyone to have a wonderful time and I will do my best to make sure that happens. I look forward to seeing you all.

Hey - how do you know that the Lost panel is scheduled for Sat? Heroes is in the Ballroom right before that time...

Kristin Dos Santos posted the schedule a few weeks back. Sure, it was all speculative at the time but the Thursday schedule is up on the official CC site and it's exactly as she posted. Also, the Friday schedule was leaked a few days ago as well and it is also the same as what Kristin posted. Lost is not on either of those days. Here's the schedule Kristin posted: www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/detail/index.jsp?uuid=a277622e-c865-4611-85f8-d3be4ae28589

Yeah, it'll be bad if you're anywhere near the exhibit hall. I doubt the Lost panel will be any more crowded than it normally would be.

Official schedule is up on the site. Looks like Lost is getting the special treatment this year as the panel is being held in the largest room they've got, Hall H. It's all right here: www.comic-con.org/cci/

addicted2lost815: I am attending CC for the first time, mostly for the Lost panel. How early should I plan to line up on Saturday morning, and where do we line up before the center opens? I am fine to go to the Heroes session first, just concerned that they will clear us out and I would miss Lost. Thoughts? I would love to meet up with others who will be there Saturday morning. Safety in numbers. Welcome help from anyone with tips.

The rooms are not cleared between panels. If I were you, I would show up early. I assume that some forum members will be getting in line VERY early and if you ask nicely, you may be able to get a spot in line with them.
Oh, and none of my friends have Friday passes, so if any forum members would be down to hang out with a friendless loser such as myself that would be very nice.

Thanks Steve. I think I remember seeing a panel hosted by Entertainment Weekly on Friday featuring Damon and Carlton and other "showrunners" that you might like. With your ticket, you might get early Lost scoop before the main event on Saturday.

Amosk - Glad you can make it this year. It's going to be a blast. Do you have a 4 day pass or just the Sat one? If you have the one day pass, you will have to go get your badge first, before you can get in line. I am not sure what time they open for that on Sat morn, but I would guess 9. Get in line early for that too (maybe 730-8, but that is just a guess). If you have a 4 day, then you can start lining up outside the exterior entrance to Hall H as early as you want since they will bring people in through that door (for other rooms you would go in another door). I figure we will get there pretty darn early so that we can get good seats for Lost. I like Heroes enough to sit through their panel. ;D And Steve is right, they do not clear the rooms between panels. Hall H is huge. Its the biggest room at the convention center, so that should help with getting anyone in who shows up at any decent time. We usually try to get enough seats together even if we aren't all in the same place in line. But as long as we don't add a huge group of people to our place in line then it all works out and we can all go in at the same time. Also make sure to come to the Jay and Jack panel. We had a huge turnout last year, so hopefully we will see all many new faces and everyone from last year too. Please make sure to introduce yourselves, cause its lots of fun meeting everyone face to face.
