I LOVE A Christmas Story. Did you know that kid was 13 when ralphie played in that movie. Anyway. . . thats a must watch around Christmas time. The actor that played Ralphie is actually in the recent movie The Break-Up with Jennifer Anniston. I actually met the actors that played the teacher, Randy and Schwartz last year. They came to downtown Cleveland for the Christmas parade! Too cool!

I'm dropping a vote for the underdog: Miracle on 34th Street. That movie is such a classic and I really enjoy it more than any of the other movies. It was a hard choice between that and Wonderful Life, because those movies are pure magic. Whereas the others, although funny as all getout, don't make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. That's what Christmas is all about to me. Although leg lamps, teflon sprayed sleds and red hot doorknobs are good for laugh at Christmas, Miracle and Wonderful Life are lasting classics. Miracle is just better! hehe

almost impossible to differentiate between Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation.
however, since I must vote, it's Christmas Story. I couldn't comprehend that my fiancée hadn't seen this movie until I introduced it to her a few years ago.

Ahem. Re: Official Versus Ideas Thread « Reply #47 on Nov 23, 2006, 3:30pm »
X-Mas Animated Special themed: A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS vs. HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS vs. RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER vs. FROSTY THE SNOWMAN (yeah, there's others, but these are most vertainly the iconic four...but we all know the first two are the BIG two, so this could be pared down to just Charlie Brown vs. The Grinch)
or
X-Mas Classic Film themed: IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE vs. MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET vs. A CHRISTMAS CAROL vs. A CHRISTMAS STORY (A Christmas Carol refers to the most famous and beloved version of the Ebeneezer Scrooge tale, with Alistair Sim...over the last few years, mostly due to TBS, A Christmas Story has risen to this level...as these can all be seen EVERY holiday season)Wondering where the ideas for these two versus matches came from...

gotta go with John Hughes on this one - Home Alone.
Christmas themed movies are generally lame.
for some reason they always put The Great Escape on at Christmas in England.

It's a Wonderful Life should win hands down. Frank Cappra's masterpiece is what Christmas is about...family and friends and appreciating what you have. No other movie does that as well as it does. I agree with Jay...I get a little teary-eyed every time at the end when his brown toasts to "George Bailey...the richest man in town." If you have never seen this movie, you need to give it a chance. Yes it's old, yes black and white, but the message is still as good today. Amazingly enough, this movie didn't even really catch on till much later when it started to be played every year on TV.

*sigh* I don't know who to vote for. I'll have to think about this one...
I wish I could vote for The Muppet Christmas Carol. I like it enough that I watch it almost every year. Something I can't say for the others.
