The Padres also signed Walter Young, a huge ex-prospect for the Orioles. The guy makes Cecil Fielder look small. The Chargers should have signed him.

First of all, great thread. If there is one thing I like more than TV shows, it is talking about baseball. My favorite team is the Rangers (I used to live in Dallas) and I hate the Cardinals because everyone around me loves them. That being said my true passion is fantasy baseball and I know lots of stats about most every player on every team (or at least I do after a month or so into the season after all of the adjustments). Mock the Rangers if you want, but they have one of the best hitting teams (even without Soriano). I am going to cross my fingers now as I say that we finally have some quality pitchers (Eaton, Millwood, Padilla), and we will be well on our way to the World Series after we get Clemens I went to Cooperstown this last summer and it was fantastic. I had never been to NYC, Boston or Philly before, so we made it a baseball trip and did some sightseeing too. I saw the Yanks play the Sox (big Popi hit two dongs as the Sox beat the Yanks) at Yankee Stadium, I took a tour of Fenway (no home games when we were there), saw the Phillies play the Braves, and spent the day at Cooperstown. I even got to chat with Randy Johnson in a parking garage in NYC!! He wasn't much of a talker so the conversation didn't last long. Eaton has all the tools to be a great pitcher, but sometimes he can be a head case. Every game he seems to have one bad inning.

dressed up in a gorrla sute and then got fired and then a he opologised He should apologize; the horse has left the barn. Crisp is no replacement for Damon, age notwithstanding. The guy has never seen a pitch he didn't like.

I don't think he was fired from everything I read. He didn't like the public way the negotiations went down, plus the "power structure" - whatever that means - didn't suit him.
I just think it was a stupid mistake by the Sox - at least as far as PR goes.
As for Crisp - his upside is his age. He should mature at the plate (hopefully).

I like Crisp, but he's not an ideal lead-off man; not selective enough. His on-base percentage should be higher.
The Jays have been predicted to win the division by a couple of people. Oh, if it were so, but it's wishful thinking.

True. The Jays should certainly give both of the aging rotations in Boston and New York a run for their money, but both Roy Halladay and AJ Burnett are coming off injuries. I'm guessing Burnett won't be the ace they're looking for. I don't think Crisp is an ideal leadoff man either, but I don't think they could find anyone else for that price.
Alex Gonzalez won't be a great shortstop for the Red Sox either - I think they'll end up missing Bill Mueller too.

Yeah, and I think for the BoSox if Beckett were better they'd have given him more than a 1-year deal.

I am a total Padre fan, possibly because my dad works for the Padres. He is the hitting coach.

Cool! I know this is a ways off, but if I go to ComicCon this year I'd love to check out a Padres game. I haven't even checked out the schedule, but ideally I'd like to watch the Padres and the Angels. I've been to Dodger Stadium, it's really nice. Even if I drove into the LAPD academy by mistake on the way in

Hey Matt, You should go to a Padres game. I always love going to the games. The best part is that I am able to hang out in the club house. I am able to play halo 2 on the giant plasma TV that they have. It is great. There is just such an energy when I go to the games that is different from other teams' stadiums.
