Since there seem to be some fans out there, how 'bout a MLB thread? Spring training starts in about a month or so. I see we have a Padres fan. Can we assume a Blue Jays fan? Phillies? And even tho' they stink, I still like the Royals.

Phillies all the way. Aaron Rowen just got traded and I'm psyched to see him play. He's kind of a friend of the family (and a jerk besides) but it's still pretty cool to brag to your friends about. Still, I want Thome back.

The Jays have made some improvements, but it's pretty tough being in a division where there are two teams which can spend $80-100 million more in salary. It'll make for an interesting season, and hopefully draw a few fans. Toronto remains an NHL town, though.

I grew up in Baltimore Maryland, so I am an Orioles fan.

The Orioles have a great history, I just think they've had some tough times under Angelos. Being in the toughest division in baseball and having this business with the Nationals moving in next door can't be easy. But they've got a great new pitching coach and a good farm system. They just need to dump Tejada, who's a bit of a malconent, and focus on pitching.

Yeah. They've been having it rough lately. Sometimes people ask me, why do you like them, they aren't that good. And I simply say, I grew up in Baltimore and I ran the bases at Camden Yards, so I will always like the Orioles.

What you said about the money is sooooo true, matt. We have had so many excellent players play and leave. It's a major downer.

I think MLB will do something eventually, but grudgingly. The luxury tax hit the Yankees hard this year, but they can afford it. MLB won't admit they want the Yanks and the Sox in the post-season every year to sell the games. The players will be adamantly opposed to a salary cap.

I've been a Padre fan since 1969. Not a lot of wins over the years.

They need to put a cap on the money they pay these kids out of College and High School. Teams like the Padres Draft players they really don't want, because they can't afford to pay the big money to the big bonus guys. The Padres had the number 1 pick a few years back, and drafted some kid that might not ever make the big leagues. And he still got 3.5 million dollars.

I've been a Padre fan since 1969. Not a lot of wins over the years. I've ben a RSox fan all my life.. I can give you some advice.... just accept it... embrace the losing... make a game out of it... see how far into the season they can go before they blow it...the more you want them to win, the less they will..... when you accept that they will never win... that's when it will happen... (October 2004)I've tried to share this with Cubs fans, but they are just so darn optimistic... it's sad....

You mean the kid who got busted for fighting in a nightclub or somesuch? I completely agree about the cap. On a side note, I remember back in '94 when Cone jumped from the Jays to the Royals. He took half of his 3-year, $18 million salary as a signing bonus. I wondered, 'Why would he demand $9 million up front'? 8 months later, work stoppage.
