I think Harry's situation was heavily debated on who he should stay with. Perhaps when the decision was made Dumbledore was using that time to magically protect him at Privet Drive. Maybe they were just waiting for things to die down before dropping him off at his aunts....I don't know.

Dumbledore was very sure about sending him to Privet Drive because he would be away from the wizarding war. Remember that Hagrid got the bike from Sirius, so that means Hagrid got Harry out of there after the whole Sirius fiasco. Maybe Hagrid took Harry to a safe place until he got word from Dumbledore as to what to do. Dumbledore sends Hagrid an owl, probably saying to come at night, muggles aren't ready to see a giant riding a flying motorcycle yet, and told him to come to privet drive.
Oh and it hasn't been mentioned in awhile but I have a 7 for you

Another thing came to mind McGonnigal knew where the Dursley's lived but I don't think Dumbledore told her because then he wouldn't of been surprised to see her there. And she wouldn't be surprised to find out Hagrid was bringing harry. hmmm......

man, i can't keep up with you guys, i leave for a day we're 10 pages later.
I think dumbledore told her, he was suprised because he expected her to be out partying. She was suprised Hagrid was bringing him because she didn't trust hagrid, and didn't see how dumbledore could trust hagrid with something so important.

And we can just do some non-serious talking. Yea he probably did tell McGonnigal, which shows how close their relationship is. I can't imagine Dumbledore telling that many people about his plan with Harry. |

I always thought that Dumbledore told a select few people of the Order and McGonagall maybe missed the memo when DD told those people and learned that Harry was going to Privet Drive from someone who was told so. A recap would be a cool idea and the same with some non-serious HP talking. That'd be awesome  |

I'm reading the part where we first see Dumbledore and McGonnagal over and over. I can't seem to get any clues. Dumbledore was not that surprised to see her there, but McGonnagal was surprised that he recognized her as the cat. Reading further I am almost positive that she didn't get told from Dumbledore. She asked him if all the rumours were true. (about the potters)
Read a little more, Hagrid told McGonnagal where Dumbledore was going.........but he didn't tell her why.
So Dumbledore did not tell her.
Wow a little reading solves alot!
