Hey everybody! I've decided to make this thread because I love Harry Potter and know many who do too. My idea for this thread is that it is going to be an organized discussion, not just talking about random things. I will present a topic and we can talk about. Whenever we feel like we have talked about it enough we can move on to a new topic. I will make the first topic. My idea of how we should choose a new topic is that you could pm me a topic, and I will pick from them until we run out, the first one to pm will get theirs used 1st and so on. Or we could just do a poll but I feel its better to pm because this way only the people interested can pick. Basically this is exactly like Canon Conundrums on Pottercast. There will be spoilers for all six books!I feel that it is distracting to use the spoiler "box" so you are warned! Topic 1: The Prophecy. It is one of the keys to the series. It is the thing that started it all. Some questions to keep in mind. What do you think the prophecy means? How did you interpret it the first time you read it. Is there a third person involved? "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches. born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies . and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not . and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives . the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies."Have fun theorizing! Sorry this is long but I just wanted to get all my ideas out. A great encyclopedia for all things Harry Potter is the Lexicon. Awesome site! Oh and people be kind to eachother! Just because you don't like someones idea doesn't mean you can be mean.

There's SOOO much to that prophesy, the whole "neither can live while the other survives" line is kind of vague and I go back and forth on what I think it means all the time. On one hand it seems like Harry and Voldemort have to die at the same time, but on the other it just seems like in order for one of them to continue to exist the other has to die. I tend to stick with the latter most of the time, probably because I don't know if my heart would be able to take Harry dying at the end of book 7 after all these years.
Can't wait to hear what other people think, good idea for a thread...I also appreciate the Daaawwwlish!

It's been so long since I've read it gosh..It's hard to see what's going to happen there. Like Jenny said..back and forth..The first time I read it...I wasn't thinking cleary because there was a lot going on in the book if I remember right, so I was confuzzled. I don't think a third person is envolved but..we don't have a lot of info to go by.

The first time i read the prophecy, I interpreted it as harry and voldemort cannot die unless one of them kills eachother. It seems logical but who knows. J.K. I think spent hours analyzing those words to get them just right. And she did a wonderful job. Anyways, I do not think there is a third person invlolved which Dumbledore cast that theory away when they were talking about neville.

Daaawwwlish, you've done it! I'm so proud ;D
As far as the prophecy goes, for some reason it seems simple to me: in the final "battle" between Harry and Voldemort, one will die, one will live. Also, I don't think there is a 3rd person involved...it would seem silly to have all of this encounters between Harry and Voldemort, and then have a 3rd person thrown into the mix in the 7th book.

Having a third person would be stupid. Some believe that the third person is the "other" stated in the prophecy but I don't think so. Other just refers to harry and voldemort, as stated by laura on mugglecast.
And some more things to think about are: What do you think would of happened if snape never overheard the prophecy? Who would have known about it? What do you think they would do to protect it? (the prophecy)
Thanks Dod I've been thinking about doing this for awhile now and finally got time to make it.

Yea well If Voldemort never found out than what would of happened? Voldemort would never have tried to kill harry which means he would still be out killing people.
good idea dharmachili but don't be afraid to pm, I don't bite, hard.

Yay, HP topic!
When I first interpreted the prophecy...mind you I was reading into the early hours of the morning... I though it meant Harry and Neville couldn't live while the other survived 'cause you know how they kept mentioning how Neville could've been "the chosen one", but Voldemort chose Harry.
Though, now thanks to JKR's website that's cleared up. Now, I think it means that Voldemort and Harry can't live while the other survives.. I don't think this prophecy refers to 3 people

Oh, just thought of something. You know how 7 is considered a magical number (mentioned in HBP), well in the prophecy.. "born as the seventh month dies". Thought I'd point it out.
