So, today's NY post had an article about a "hot intenet rumor circulating that Jack Shepherd would be killed off this season." It implied that it was all over the internet and even had a quote from Carlton (or maybe it was Damon) about being "flattered that you would think we would do that"...
now my question is...
Is this a big red herring?
These guys know what they are doing with the viral marketing and the interconnection of various media outlets and genres to get their product out there. The Lost Experience was a beautifully crafted form of that. So, what if....
The earlier story in TV Guide, where Elizabeth Mitchell "puts two bullets in to someone surprising" was part one of this herring, and leaking a rumor on their own about the imminent death of jack were part 2....
then, they really killed Sawyer~!
Now, THAT would be a switch. From a mythological point of view, jack's character represents many things that are otherwise not seen on the island. his charisma and leadership, his willingness to risk himself for others, he is the hero character and has been since the beginning. With him dead, they would have to either try and force charlie or locke into that role, or introduce someone new and expect us to accept it.
As much as we all love the characters, isn't it easier to see Sawyer being completely gone. He basically had his dignity and all of his conniving worth handed to him by Ben when they climbed that hill with the rabbit. The camp hates him ever since the gun incident. Jack cannot deal with sawyer being with kate. The only person he has not lost credibility with is Kate, and her lack of response to his "i love you" signals more trouble is ahead.
I am not going to overdo it with this theory by saying kate has a deal with the others, and she will not run but end up radioing jack and allowing someone to die. that would jsut be nuts...
i am simply saying, "don't believe the hype... Sawyer will die before Jack shepherd does!"
