It just dawned on me that Jack Shephard's statement that "We've got to learn to live together or we're all going to die alone" took on a whole new meaning with the revelation of the outcome of the flash sideways story line.
Had our favorite group of Lostie's not learned to live together on the island, they would have all died alone in the flash sideways story line. Jacob had said that the characters were all flawed before coming to the island, and that (like Jacob) they were all alone. Had the characters not formed a tight bond on the island, they would not have been able to "leave" together in the flash sideways and each would have died alone.
This convinces me that the writers had always known the outcome of the story since the very beginning and were providing us with these little Easter eggs in the dialog throughout the show.
"We've got to learn to live together, or we're all going to die alone" takes on a whole new meaning for the us, the listener, but I believe was always meant in this context by the writers.

Yep. They were able to live together and die together.
Brings that phrase to a whole new level.
