www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyX6_j2otnsThis scene now seems to smell highly of foreshadowing, doesn't it? Did they purposely model the cave to "call" Smokey after the Source of the Island cave? Is recreating Smokey's transformation, in a way, how Smokey knew to come out? Is it all the same water?

Ha. So the Source Cave is a giant toilet? And all those skeletons? Elvis dying on the toilet?

That brings up a point... if this was season 5... the Smokey was sitting in his living room as Locke when Ben messed with the drain. Did Locke run off then the smoke monster showed up or did we see them both on the screen at the same time?

This was prior to Smokey becoming Locke. Keamy's team, before Ben left the island via the donkey wheel and then eventually killed Locke.
JLSK
PS I was thinking the water drain had to do with opening a small tunnel that had been blocked by water for Smokey to come in through. Since apparently water and smokey don't mix so much...

But MIL was knocked into water and it didn't exactly do much.
So the Smokey not liking water doesn't really hold much, uh...water?

I never got why people thought water would hurt him. I get how one could come up with that theory, but I never thought it held much... water.

Yeah, me either. The Wicked Witch theory was something I didn't want to end up being true, at any rate.

yes, i don't remember the exact quote, but it was implied there was a connection to water. And of course this was blown away when he got knocked in near the sub. I was thinking about this again in his final scene (in the rain) and with the boat offshore.
I have to watch all that again. And if so, the question to me is did the pouring rain really cause him to be vulnerable, rather than the island's bung plug. Remember, we rarely saw rain on the island.
Add that to your 30-year-debate list.

Rarely saw rain? Nearly everytime there's conflict it rained. The first look of Kate running scared from the monster was in the rain. I'll watch again but I don't think it was raining when Jack punched him and Locke started to bleed.

When the pilot aired last Saturday they mentioned how it rains every time conflict arises on the Island.
