I have my own opinion you can read elsewhere, but I'm interested to guage general feelings towards the finale and how well it wrapped up our story

Whether you're a man (or woman) of science or faith, you can find some closure in the finale - maybe not everything you wanted to know, but what would be the fun in that? We'd have nothing to talk about and theorize over if absolutely everything was explained in black & white.
I think they wrapped it up as well as they could have without spoonfeeding it to us - did we really want Joop sitting in his armchair reading us the final script?

I absolutely loved the first 95% of it, brilliantly written, at first I didn't really like the whole "Its heaven" explanation for the sideways.
The more I think about it though, its making more sense.

I wouldn't call it "heaven," because I think that's too specific to certain religions. I think it was just a general afterlife.
And I don't know who wouldn't be happy with the finale. Then again, I was shocked at the Across the Sea hate. But the finale was amazing. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Coming from someone who isn't a great predictor (of this show, movie endings, etc) I did get two things right: 1. When Matthew Fox mentioned some years ago that he knew the final shot of the series, I hypothesized (as many others did, of course) that it would be his closing eye, meaning his death. And 2. about 75-80 minutes into the finale, I figured out that the sideways was an afterlife. The major clue was that in one instant all of our characters knew EVERYTHING about their past lives. This meant that the sideways had to take place after the other timeline. And it was rattling in my brain for a while before I realized what that truly meant.
Fitting that my first correct theory not only comes in the show's final episode, but about halfway through it to boot--not exactly impressive. But I loved the way the show ended. I don't think they could have done it better.

If you had asked me a week ago if I would be happy with this scenario as an ending, I think I would have said no. After last night, though, I am thrilled with this ending. I kept thinking I wanted answers about what was going on with the island, but I found out that what I really wanted was an ending for the characters. I really relate this to the "man of faith" vs. the "man of science". I found out while watching this, that needing answers about what really happened on the island didn't matter. It happened. I can believe it happened because I have faith that it happened. I don't need any explanation. I really wanted closure and a "happy" ending for the characters that I have grown to love. While they do end up dead, it gives such a warm feeling and such optimism about "the end", that I was emotionally thrilled. I believe that if they had tried to explain the island, it would have never seemed sensible and that would have been more disappointing. I just like believing in the "magic" of the island and it's existence. I am one happy "LOST" fan. ;D

My personal opinion is "still out" as far as liking the end or not - possibly because while I knew that the off island (sideways) story was actually happening after the events on the island - i.e. after Jack dies (in 2007) his spirit - or whatever - is transported back to what appears to be 2004. I had a different scenario in mind for how they actually were back in 2004 that had nothing to do with everyone being dead. And I definitely thought Desmond going around to everyone to get them to remember was some way of getting them all back to the island again.
I guess I should have known that "love" would have been a big part of it - nearly everyone in the church was coupled up - with the exception of Boone and Locke - and who knows - maybe those 2 are meant to be together for eternity - it would make sense.
More processing later.
I guess I have to watch it all again. All I have re-watched so far is the last 15 minutes or so - basically everything from Jack and Kate's arrival at the church.

Still trying to figure out how I felt about the episode, leaning on liking it though. I realize that there were a lot of unanswered questions and that answering them all wasn't the point of the show, but where was Walt in the finale? I've only seen it once so maybe I missed him, but didn't Carlton say at the new york times LOST SPEAKS that we would definitely see him again in the finale? I saw no Walt : (

Yeah, I gotta say, Fox has been saying for years that he knew the ending to the series. Never was sure if he was BSing or not. Now I believe him.
Won't be fully happy with the finale until we get the J&J podcast, though.

Wow I was blown away and close to tears. Really great final! The thing I very much disliked was the religious/christian aspect. It took the storys credibility. But still great! Looking forward to the podcast

Loved that Locke remembered what happened to him on the island because Jack touched him. So many emotional character connections which is truly what this show is about. Yes it would have been great to know why there was a time difference on the island, who really was in the cabin who asked Locke to help him in "Man Behind The Curtain", why the Dharma food drops kept happening, what "the rules" are and blah blah blah. But in truth we cared so much about what happened to the characters and this really was the only way to make the flash sideways works. The best part is even though everyone is now dead, whether it happened "before or awhile later" like Jack's dad said, they still got all of their resoltuions. That was truly Locke and Jack's spirits having their resolution talk and everyone was truly together even though no in being alive they were all together in spirit and that's what we all wanted.

YES! I am very happy with this ending, infact I like it more and more as the days go by. I know some folks hated it (much like how I totally HATED the ending BSG....F'n jerkholes, wrecked the whole series for me with that moronic ending, grrrrr.....) anyway, I'm so VERY grateful to the fine writers of LOST for not screwing this up and wrecking the series for me. I'm looking forward to the podcast, can't wait to hear what everyone thought.
