Here's my crackpot theory:
1. I think when you die on the current island, you flash sideways and join up with your other self. (Because that seemed to happen to Juliet.)
2. I think everyone on the island will die and will end up in the flash sideways world. (Because everyone has something to live for in the flash sideways (except for poor Kate. Maybe that will get better.)
3. Everyone who is left will die when the island sinks. (because it must sink)
4. When the island sinks, the smoke monster will be trapped somehow under the water (MIB has water issues-He told Sawyer that a few episodes ago plus he takes a boat back and forth to Hydra when it would be much easier to "smoke" across.) He will either be destroyed by the water or will be trapped forever...they hope.
Also, it's really fine that we know that the whole show is about two demi-god brothers duking it out over the centuries...but I still want to know who was doing the Dharma food drops. What about that?

I agree with 1 & 2, but 3 & 4 are still a little shaky because it would mean the Island would have to go into the sideways world and then back to 2004. That seems a bit odd.

But the island has been known to jump through time. Maybe someone's going to spin that wheel again.

i do agree this could happen.. also i don't think we've seen any of the "trapped ghosts" (like Michael) in the Sideways. They are trapped and can't get to the Sideways. This would also make an interesting twist on Christian's body. It was never in the coffin (in the sideways), because somehow Christian is still "trapped" in the original LOST world. Although we've seen Anna-Lucia and Charlie as both a "Ghost" in the original LOST world, and in the Sideways.
So what about all the other people in The Sideways who weren't on the island? How do they get to The Sideways? Are they real (in the sideways)?
However I couldn't convince myself this would actually come true because that would make The Island more like a "Purgatory" waiting to go to the next place, and we've been told its not. And also it obviously makes no scientific sense how dying on The Island would send you elsewhere, to continue your life starting at 2004. Dead is dead, etc. So while i have thought about this, i really didn't believe it would turn out this way.

"i don't think we've seen any of the "trapped ghosts" (like Michael) in the Sideways. They are trapped and can't get to the Sideways. "
-good observation. I hope they address that somehow on Sunday.
"...that would make The Island more like a Purgatory waiting to go to the next place, and we've been told its not..."
We were also told that Twins were not a part of the mythology, and that was a LIE. So I don't think we can rely on what we've been told.

i agree 100% that i take everything Darlton says with a grain of salt. This wouldn't make it exactly "Purgatory", unless that implies the Sideways is heaven... so i think you could still get away with it being an "in between" spot (or gateway) before getting to The Sideways...
but its still wierd that you can come and go from The Island.. Meaning you're not really "dead" to get to The Island, and then dying again on The Island takes you to The Sideways. Its just a gateway to The Sideways. But we've seen others who haven't died on The Island in The Sideways, so there's still something missing here.
And there's always been the idea that pepole get "Redeemed" and then die, furthering the idea that you get to "move on" beyond The Island. But what does this mean for people who died other ways, like Smokey just murdering everyone in The Temple..
