Trying to deflect some of the pain that the Lost demise will inflict.....do you have any favorite shows that were ended in a way that satisfied you? There are 2 that I can think of for me:
1) Northern Exposure---the final scene & song was so fitting and the story had come full circle
2) Life On Mars [the U S version]--I really hated to see the show end, but they tied it up so well and it really had no where else to go

Wow, off the top of my head the series finales for Cheers, Murphy Brown and The Wonder Years stand out for me. I was in jr. high when all these shows ended but they were some of my favorite shows back then and still are now. Especially loved how the last scene of Murphy Brown mirrored the last scene of the pilot episode from the series.

Freaks and Geeks' finale make me smile.

The Star Trek: The Next Generation finale is the only one I can remember truly loving. Cheers was pretty good. I liked The Sopranos controversial finale, but didn't love it. I also dug the Seinfeld finale, though most fans hated it. Boston Legal wasn't bad, but kind of rushed. Buffy and Angel were fun.

I liked the first Buffy series finale, the one that was made when they thought they were cancelled from the WB, but before being picked up by UPN. I know I watched it, but I don't remember much from the final final finale on UPN.
Yeah, Boston Legal was rushed...but that is because ABC didn't give them a full season to conclude.
Monk was pretty good. It seemed to give ample closure to all the characters.

Ooh, yeah, Monk was a good one. Buffy was OK, but you really kind of had to have been following the whole final season to appreciate it. The Hellmouth plug and the island starting to collapse kind of reminded me of the Buffy finale, actually.

A lot about the last season of Lost reminded me of Buffy.
The slayer potentials were like the candidates. The big bad could take the form of various dead people. The "first evil" is akin to "evil incarnate" or whatever MIB was supposed to be (but really kinda wasn't). Closing the Hellmouth, closing the Source.
Not that Lost copied Buffy. I just think it's funny.

Yes, I almost forgot about Monk's finale and how much I enjoyed it! I remember thinking , "how will they resolve his character?". But they did and it was excellent!

I actually loved one that they parodied - the Bob Newhart show - nobody saw that coming (yeah I am old enough to have seen it when it 1st aired).
Loved the MASH finale - even loved the St Elsewhere finale (and had hoped they would have parodied that one - they referenced it when they had Desmond on the yacht babbling about being "stuck in a bloody snowglobe").

Lol, okay I saw the Newhart finale when it first aired in 1990 and I remember it. Although I was 10 at the time. My uncle was a fan of the original Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, and I remember watching the Newhart finale with him. I remember we couldn't stop laughing for a good 10 minutes after it aired.

This discussion topic is a pretty good diversion by the way. +1 to you!
