Jack' son David is Jacob's brother off-island. That's why we haven't heard his name, yet. David is the only sideways character that is new. The entire sideways world is manifest based on lies by him. That's why the main characters have such sketchy memories. Much of what they remember didn't really happen. Only everyone recognizing the truth will reset reality back. But it will require big sacrifices.
