I was thinking this afternoon, how do we know Sawyer isn't conning everyone right now. Think about all of the "mistakes" he has made in the past two episodes. As for the bomb going off, maybe the plan was for Sawyer to mess with the bomb, basically killing himself, which he can't do because he is a candidate.
How he reacted after the bomb went off is probably proof enough that this theory isn't true but I can't say I wouldn't be surprised if he had one more con up his sleeve.

I'll admit I'm a little thrown at his messing up quite a few times lately when it comes to cons.... It would be nice if he had a trick up his sleeve. But sadly, I don't feel I should hold my breath.
Sawyer lost his mojo when he lost his Juliet!

You are probably right but there is something fishy about all of the times he has "messed" up a plan he has made. The thing that really made me think was when he told Jack to pushed MIL in the water and he would take care of the rest. He didn't even do anything but flee. I don't know just something to think about

I don't think Sawyer could have been played by Widmore like that. I won't accept that. He's up to something.

From Sawyer's perspective, though...how could he really know not to trust Widmore? How much does he know about that guy? Only the freighter thing, yeah? In which case, the boat that brought Keamy also brought friends like Faraday and Miles, so he may not think Widmore is necessarily all bad.

Since when does Sawyer trust someone from the jump though? He doesn't trust anyone at the beginning. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense that he could be in with MIB. He is the one that told Jack to push Locke in the water and he would take care of the rest. What did he do?
It was Sawyer's plan on who went to the sub first and who stayed behind. (Sayid, Locke, Claire, Jack and Kate, maybe he knows if any of them are shot, Jack would bring them in the sub and check on them which keeps Jack from staying on the island)
Then on the sub when they realize the bomb is in Jack's backpack and Sayid says what needs to be done to the bomb and then Sawyer tells Sayid to move. That doesn't make sense, it's like someone prepped for surgery, Jack stating everything that needs to be done and someone pushing Jack aside and do it themselves.
Maybe Sawyer does it because he knows he can't die if he messes with the bomb. I don't know just more food for thought.

It's been over three years since Sawyer's been Sawyer, though.
James LaFleur was probably more of a trusting guy.
