You probably know this from Lostpedia but hydra refers to a challenge or problem that keeps getting harder to handle no matter how much one tries to correct the issue. Another meaning for hydra is a persistent or ever-increasing evil with many sources and causes. I think it is integral to the story because it describes the effects of trying to go back in time to change things (This is what it seems like Charles and Eloise are trying to do and in the process, are mucking it up terribly. Its all about to blow up int their faces, metaphorically and literally, I am sure.) Doing this might fix one thing but that one little fix can cause a ripple effect on other things. Muliple new problems created by the problems caused by the one little change. That could be considered a challenge that keeps getting harder to handle no matter how much one tries to correct the issue. I thought that was an interesting tidbit since the drama is all about to go down on Hydra Island.
Love the show! Now, if you could just make it a video podcast so I can stare your handsome mugs while you dazzle me with your stellar Lost insight.

Yup, this comes from the Greek tragedies, the Hydra was a dragon like creature with many heads and anytime you lopped one off, two more would pop back up in its place. Sounds like a nasty problem to me!
