So Flocke said Kate is no longer a candidate? Is this because she messed up or sided with Flocke? Any Ideas?

This is bugging me too. I think we saw her name on the cave wall, only crossed out, which would mean (most likely) that Jacob crossed her out before Ben killed him, so it wouldn't be for going with Locke after the Temple massacre. Presumably she became a candidate way back when Jacob toucher her when she was a child shoplifter. Could it be because she killed her father? The other candidates have mostly all killed someone, Hurley with the van, Jin and Sun--but they didn't kill their fathers. Could this have something to do with the Others insisting John Locke kill his dad in order to go with them? And as far as we know, nobody besides Sawyer knows Locke didn't do it. Could this be Jacob's loophole? You can't be a candidate if you kill your own parent? And maybe why Locke's name was not crossed out, and MIL was wrong to do so? Perhaps a part of why Locke's personality seems to be taking hold in MIL? Just riffing on this stuff.

Just a gut feeling here - Jacob brought a lot more people to the island than the 6 candidates that we know of - there were 48 survivors of the crash - but with some of them having been killed off in various mishaps - maybe in watching their actions on the island after they got there - he weeded some out and Kate was one of them.
Maybe he does't like Polar Bear Cage sex (but that would leave Sawyer out too) - maybe he didn't like dressing up as a black horse just so Kate could have some very weird closure about killing her father - whatever the reason - he felt she would not make a good candidate to take over for him. It is probably something that simple.
Maybe she was crossed off when she left to take care of Aaron - remember it was more or less Blackie who set all of the wheels in motion to bring them all back - but why he needed her back is really beyond me - it's not like he needed her to convince Jack to go - or Sawyer - he was already there.
I don't know - but my whole point in this is that Jacob weeded out some he originally thought could replace him and got his list down to 6.

Locke can be lying or just not be knowledgeable. My though is Jacob selects the candidates.

I think its a pairing thing- they need to find a new Jacob and MiB
Jack & Sawyer Jin & Sun etc etc.
Kate was paired with Juliet, so when Juliet died Kate lost her ability to be a candidate and got scored off.

Locke and Sayid were candidates but death should eliminate both. Ilana said their was 6 left after Sayid died. Shephard, Ford, Kwon and Reyes are definitely 4 (Jack, Sawyer. Sun or Jin, and Hurley.
Some think that Ilana did not know Sayid was dead, so she may still think he is a candidate.
So that leaves 1 or 2 left and chances are they will be someone like Frank Lapidies, Desmond Hume, Miles Strom. Lesser chance but possible - Ben, Claire, Kate (even though MIL said no), Cindy the stewardess, Aaron, Walt, Steve (of scott and steve), Rose, Bernard, etc.
Mu thought is the key is Frank because Smokeys first kill that we know of was the pilot in the first episode. It would make sense that Frank who was suppose to be the pilot was the one Smokey wanted. When he saw it was not Frank he killed the replacement pilot.

1.Maybe Kate is supposed to raise Aaron. MIB said his mom was crazy and he still was working through issues due to that? Maybe Jacob and MIB are in agreement on that?
2.Or Claire is going to kill her, so she's not the best prospect if he wants her to stay alive?
3.She's fickle. Can't decide- Sawyer or Jack- Jack or Sawyer.

I would say MIL was just saying that to keep Claire happy or else he would of let Claire kill Kate, but he needs her alive because she is still a canidate.

Could it have something to do with being a murderer? OR when does Jacob write the names on the wall. When he gets the idea to bring the person, or after they have already arrived on the island, or after they have killed someone (against the rules) they would be crossed off? Have no idea. I just don't want Kate to be the hero in the end...

I don't think Sayid would still be a candidate if Jacob were around to cross his name off the list! but good point...

I was under the impression that Jacob wrote the names on the Compass and MIB wrote the names on the cave wall. Kates names was still on the compass and we never saw it on the cave wall. So I think she's still a canidate and MIB doesn't have the say weather she is or isn't a possible replacement for Jacob.
