Since - a far as I know - there are no spoilers out there having to do with the Finale - at least not that I have seen - other than the title - I am going to throw this on as more of a prediction than a theory - but it's just where I see the story going.
Basically this covers what I think is going to happen at the very end - maybe the last 15 minutes (just using that time frame because that's what was used for the Finale Contest) - and seeing Desmond back on the island more or less cemented it for me.
Anyway - here goes.
I said a couple of weeks ago that the Off Island story - the Flash Sideways - were in the future - even though they are set in 2004. What I meant was that how they get back to that point is in the future.
Here's what I think happens (and just in case - I will put it in spoiler form):
There you have it - my Finale Theory/Prediction. It might not be that big of a surprise - or all that mind blowing - but hey - I'm on a streak lately (I named the title for the Finale a week before it actually came out) - OK - not much of a streak - but I did call that the off island stuff actually happens after the on island stuff in this story a few weeks ago and I am sticking to that - I've never felt more sure about any theory in 6 years LOL.

We have all of the main players back on the island now that Desmond is back. We have all of the 815ers - the 316ers - some of them the same people - we've got Desmond - Ben - Widmore - we've got Hurley talking to the dead - so who knows what other dead LOSTies might show up. I think the only main character from the island's history that we don't have is Eloise Hawking - and who knows - she might show up for the finale.
You could argue that Locke isn't there - but I cover him too in a weird sort of twisty way.
At the end of "The War" - I am not sure how yet - Jack does take Jacob's place - but only for a very short time - long enough to send everyone back to a time in their lives before Jacob came into their lives. This works for most of the characters whose stories we have seen off of the island this year.
It doesn't work for Hurley (and we had better find out why he is called "Hurley" - it is a mystery) - he wasn't touched by Jacob (as far as we know) until just before the Ajira flight - and it doesn't work for Jin and Sun - they would have to have been still single when he touched them for it to work. They must have something in common that we haven't seen yet.
But the basic gist of the prediction here is that either Jack is able to send everyone back - or maybe Jacob and Blackie's mother shows up and grants Jack his wish to return everyone to their lives and destroy the island.
There is just too much that has happened in the characters' lives to account for the changes in their lives to have just happened because the plane didn't crash as we have been told by the show's writers and creators (I even saw it spelled out that way in the pop-up version of "Dr Linus").
Jin and Sun were married in the beginning of the story - now they aren't. Jack was childless - now he has a son. Sawyer was a con man - James Ford is a cop. These things did not - could not have happened just because the plane didn't crash. These people's lives had to have changed well before they even got on Flight 815.
As for the dead - they will be returned to us - they are all there on or near the island - near enough to be considered on it. Just because Jacob couldn't bring Richard's wife back (I think that was just because she hadn't died there - not because he didn't have the power to - either that or he was lying just to keep Richard focused on what he wanted him to do) - doesn't mean the dead can't be brought back.
The very final scene we see will be of the entire original cast getting off of the plane in LA - including Michael, Charlie, Libby, Ana-Lucia and maybe even Walt somehow. Suffice to say - there will be enough characters that we thought were dead and one forever to make it a nice tear inducing end.
As for Locke - he is a special case. What I think happens with him is that Blackie - in the form of Locke - gets his wish and gets off of the island - but he is returned to Locke's life - stuck in a wheelchair, marrying Helen, not estranged from his father, paralyzed from the waist down because of an accident at the box company. The real point of all that is that it's really Blackie and not the original Locke. That's just my little warped twist on that particular part of the story.
Kind of like Sayid gets his wish for Nadia not to be dead. She's not dead - but she's not his either.
