If I remember correctly 'the Others' were building a runway when Kate and Sawyer were doing it in the bear cages. Are we to believe that this is the runway that MiB wants to use to flee the Island (on a plane piloted by Lapidus). If the Others were helping Jacob, or doing Jacob's bidding, why were they building a runway for MiB to escape? I know that some of the Losties came back via this runway also. But I think that was just to bring MiB his escape plane and pilot. It seems to me that MiB used to have more control over the Hydra Island before Widmore showed up and planted those pylons on the Hydra Island.

The runway was more built so Ajira 316 could LAND, not so much take off. But either way....

I know the runway made it possible for Lapidus and the Losties to come back to the island, but the runway also made it possible for the plane to be mostly intact. If Jacob didn't want them leaving he would have had them crash land, like 815, so the plane was unusable. The people on his list would have still survived the crash, like they did before. I think there is more going on here. Eloise Hawking said to Jack that he needed to gather as many of the original passengers as possible to make his return flight to the Island. I bet MiB has to do the same thing to leave the Island and convince them to come with him, not force them, on his awesome airplane, complete with finished runway!

I do think it's possible Ben was manipulated by MIB to build the runway, yeah.
Ben and Widmore said all the O6 and such had to return. Were they knowingly sending all candidates back or not?

Did they all have to come back to the Island just so that they could leave again? Seems like a lot of effort and a logistical nightmare! Any why do they have to recreate the scenario as closely as possible by having the same passengers? Would they miss the Island all together if they didn't have enough of the right passengers? And why would this happen?

There is always a huge hole in story writing that contains a lot of extras. Flight 815 had 324 passengers. Yet no matter where we are in the story it tends to focus on the same people.
If the flight has to have as many of the same people aboard, could less than a dozen really count.

If the flight has to have as many of the same people aboard, could less than a dozen really count. They are probably only counting candidates. The other people on the plane are just a consequence of needing the candidates to come back to the Island, in order to leave the Island again. They are just flaming arrow, smokey, polar bear and Other fodder...

I believe that this was covered in "everybody loves hurley". I think MiLocke said something about having to have the right candidates all together to leave the Island. So were the candidates brought to the island to find a replacement for Jacob, or to help MiLocke escape?
and that whole whispers answer was totally bullpoop

On Smokey, what if to be in the smoke form MIB requires the actual island to be under him. It seems he may be a creature of magnatism, so perhaps Smokey can only really exist and move on the actual island. Elsewhere it must condense itself into a human type of form and live with the limitations of being in that form.
This might mean that Smokey can not only not go over water, but might not be able to be smokey off island at all...
