Jacob didn't intervene with Alex? Uh, so now Jacob is to blame for everyone who dies on the show for not preventing it? Why is that his responsibility when he's all about choice to begin with? Why is that worse than MIB who kills people with his own two han--well...you get the idea.
I don't think Jacob is oh-so powerful. He clearly has a vast number of limitations.

I know you want to defend Jacob but if he is the supernatural leader of the island and he takes Ben under his wing and Ben gives him 100% allegiance it should be Jacob's desire (if not his obligation) to protect Ben and his family. Remember the island has special healing powers and when Ben got his spinal tumor (of course you do ) did not Ben feel that Jacob let him down

Jacob's MO is to not interfere. He didn't request Ben's allegiance. Ben made his own choices and Jacob respects that. Hence his not avoiding being stabbed by the guy. I don't think Jacob is omnipresent or anything either. There's nothing to suggest that. So how can he really have known Alex was in danger anyway? Plus, if you account for universe course-correcting being more powerful than Jacob...then Alex's death was bound to happen no matter what way you spin it, just like with Nadia. Jacob doesn't LET people die. He just ACCEPTS that people die. And it's the choices people have the freedom to make that lead to one death or another. Or living.
