Not sure if it has been brought up before, but anyone notice the similarities between the show and the "unfinished" Mark Twain work The Mysterious Stranger? It is a work dealing with the duality of man. There are some great clips on youtube of a claymation version of the stories in this novella.

Reading Mark Twain is like torture for me...but OMG is the claymation version that super creepy thing with the devil guy talking to the kids?! I found that once and it scared me to death.
