It seems from listening to some different podcasts that the majority hate Kate. I agree she can be frustrating sometimes but for the most part I think she gets a bad rap. What do u think? If you do hate her, what are your reasons? Is there any other characters you don't like?

I don't hate Kate, but I feel the writers have treated the character badly. Since her initial promise in season 1 she's fallen into a mode of following Jack/Sawyer/Someone and then getting into a jam, only to be rescued by the person she was following.
They also tend to describe her motivation through exposition, but then neglect to demonstrate it through actions. "I gave up Aaron to look for Claire", but then she actually doesn't attempt to look for Claire. Maybe she spent time making subtle inquiries about missing blond women to the DI, or for that matter, maybe she asked the Dharma 4 about her, but it was never shown.
In this season, she goes to the temple, leaves the temple, finds Sawyer, leaves him, finds Jack, leaves him, wanders around, goes back to the temple. Were we supposed to see this as an epic search for Claire? Because it felt like someone wandering around because she had nothing better to do.
Whew. Flame off.

markedman hit it right on the nose. I don't like Kate, but I really just blame the writers for how they choose to present her. I still feel Evangeline Lilly gives it her all with the little she's got.... Over and over again the characters of Lost have had to face their problems and wrong-doings and admit to them and take penance for them. I don't think Kate ever has. She's always turned back around again to being a poor little victim. Here's Kate's thoughts based solely on the way she's written. It's way harsh, forgive me.... "Oh, I killed my dad. But he was a big meanie to my mom! Sure, he abused her for years, but when I found out he was my biological father then that just hurt ME too much! And then I had to go on the run because no one understood why I killed my dad! And my childhood friend tried to help me because he still cared about me after I led him on for years but kept running away! But then he got killed because of me! But that really hurt me too, you know?! I needed his toy plane so I became a bank robber and hurt a lot of other complete strangers! But it was because I missed my friend who I basically killed, okay? Poor me! Also somewhere in there I feel in love with a cop guy and we were going to get married! But because I had done all these bad things I had to run away again! It's not my fault! I would have stayed with him if I hadn't already chosen to do half a dozen terrible things before! And then on this Island...these two guys really like me! But sometimes they like me so much, I screw them over! I can't help it! I don't know what I want because I'm just a stupid female, right?! Poor me. Then Sawyer called me out on it?! What a JERK! I'm going to leave now. Oh, but he followed and we got rescued? Yay! Oh, but he sacrificed his getting rescued to save the rest of us! That broke my heart! I'll steal this child who isn't mine to mend my poor, broken, little heart! It's all because of Sawyer I took Aaron and kept him! Blame him! But being a mom is so HARD. I wasn't prepared for it. Poor me. I'll find his real mom so I can ditch this responsibility. Oh, but giving up Aaron was harder than I thought! I guess I'll use Jack for sex to make myself feel better! He won't mind being used! Now I'm back on the Island. Oooo, Sawyer's here. He's still hot. Why'd I come back again? Oh right, Claire. Oh, there she is. She came to me after I forgot to look. OMG! She tried to kill me! WHHHY? Poor me! " I hope Kate is redeemed before the end of the show. I really do. I want to like her. But the writers make it so d**n hard, sometimes....

I find the character to useless and in the way at times. When I saw Kate running down the alley after crashing into Sawyer in the sideways, I just rolled my eyes. I don't hate the character, but I really have no interest in Kate either.

Those intelligent enough to look past the outer shell will realize that the only thing going for her IS that outer shell. Hse is not a very complex character.
I also hate kate.

Disclaimer - I hate Kate. Here's the thing about Kate...she isn't good or bad, she is just 100% selfish. In every situation she has done whatever it takes (manipulation, running, lying, hurting others) to take care of herself. Some might call her a 'survivor' but that isn't good enough for me. She is one dimensional, and that dimension is selfishness. It is annoying, unsympathetic, and I want to see her lose. I want to see her get what is coming to her instead of always slipping out by the skin of her teeth.
Small theory - I think her comeuppance is about to happen in the flash sideways world when Sawyer pinned her against the fence. That is what she gets for once more picking survival and selfishness over the right choice when she went with man in Locke. Tsk tsk.

Question though..... I just wonder if Kate has alot more to do with the finale then we give her credit, because originally, she was going to be the "main" character but then they changed it to Jack. But also, she was going to be played by Sun orginally. Those LOST producers make things so confusing!!

They write her terribly (spinaltumor said it all above), so I don't care about her. No. 51's ok, but it's no 4, or 23

But also, she was going to be played by Sun orginally. Yunjin Kim auditioned for Kate's part, but I don't think they were ever going to have her play that part. Instead they decided to make their quarreling couple Korean or something and sort of created the role of Sun for her.
