I have said in another thread that I think the Flash Sideways scenes off of the island and how the story gets there still lay in the future in that someone - or something - sends all of the LOSTies back in time to before Jacob entered their lives. It's what Doc Jensen was referring to in the Podcast-athon as an "Epilogue".
I mean if what we're seeing is that - fine - it's how they get to that point - and while I was listening to that part of the show - I had a horrifying thought.
There are a few episodes of the original Star Trek that EVERYONE knows. "The Trouble With Tribbles" - the one where Spock and Kirk fight (and there's that crazy music) and the third is "The Squire of Gothos". I am not - nor have I ever been a huge Star Trek fan - but when Doc Jensen mentioned the "Epilogue" and I was thinking of my theory - I went to the 3rd episode mentioned - "The Squire Of Gothos".
In that - Kirk, Bones, Spock and a few others - beam down to a planet and run into a being who is pretty much all powerful - named Trelaine. Anyway - he plays with our heroes pretty much for the whole episode until Mom and Dad show up and tell him to stop playing with his toys like that and let them go on their way.
I just had this horrible feeling that the "Crazy mother" that Blackie mentioned shows up in the middle of the War For The Island - tells Jacob - or his replacement - and Blackie to stop- fighting and send their toys home and she sinks the island so they can't keep messing with people's lives.
