I also had a CRAZY crackpot theory about MIB/Jacob AND Ben all being the same "entity" somehow, probably unknown to some or all of the three. I'm not sure how, since we've seen Ben as a kid and presumably MIB/Jacob before that. But I really got the feeling as we see more of MIB and Jacob's manipulations that they are all related to Ben's skills.
And Ben is the only one that saw them all together. And Ben killed Jacob. And maybe THAT was the loophole. ONLY Ben could kill Jacob, because they're somehow the same thing. Possibly MIB and Jacob are figments of Ben's imagination (embodied physically somehow by The Islands' powers) and only he can "kill" them since they're part of him.
And Ben is now "weak", possibly because MIB has taken control as the "primary personality".
Again, I have no idea how this all could be since we've seen Ben as a kid, and it would require multiple physical manifestations (which is one of the main problems with all the MIB=Jacob theories), but I can't help thinking there's something to this.
(and we only hear about "pairs" and not "triads". but maybe Jacob/MIB are like the little angels/devils on Ben's shoulders.)

But if it's all about Ben, it sort of makes season 1 a bit less significant, doesn't it?
I like the triad thing, though.

This may lead to an interesting Freudian concept of the ID EGO and SUPEREGO
simply the id is what we want to do, the ego is what we do and the superego is our moral compass.

Wait did I say compass (see Richard Alpert and John Locke)
