Knowing MIL intends to fly the 316 plane off the island got me thinking, what if he brought it there a la Jacob? He knows Frank can land anything and he needs the plane to be intact to leave. He could have also tried the same thing with 815, but Jacob intervened so that Frank wasn't on the plane. It crashes and MIL gets mad and kills Frank's replacement. He tries again with 316 and is successful.

I like it.
It would mean MIB manipulated Ben into ordering the runway be built.
But what about all the other crashes onto the Island?

Jacob went to Ilana when she was in the hospital for what ever and asked her to help him. So I'm guessing Jacob knew that Ilana and her crew where coming on a plane and told Richard to tell Ben to build a runway. But now MIL is using Jacobs runway to his advantage.

Or Jacob knew what MIB was up to, so he ensured Ilana got on that flight too.

spinaltumor -- good call. Ilana had info about how to capture Sayid, and then appeared at the plane at the last minute to board the flight. That fits.
