Does anyone think it is significant that in the Flash Sideways our Lost-aways are not just meeting each other, or in each other's backgrounds, but are actually helping each other? I think that is true of every meeting.
Did any of the characters help each other in the Flashbacks?

Hmm, how often did the Losties really see each other in the flashbacks? They saw the same side characters like Christian, Cassidy, Kate's mom, etc.... But did they ever meet each other outside Jack and Desmond?

But did they ever meet each other outside Jack and Desmond? Yeah, you're right. Which makes me even more curious about how closely they are interacting (and helping) in the Flash Sideways.

I tend to agree with what you are thinking. But there are other incidents that do not really contradict but show different occurrences.
In the Sideways Jack was in the hospital when Sayid went to see Omarl and made no real contact or help,
Flashbacks where they helped
In the Constant Desmond helped Faraday with his formula
In Flashes before your Eyes Desmond met Charlie playing Wunderwall which gives him the feeling that they met sometime in the future.
OK Nadia was not an island character In Greatest Hits Charlie saved Nadia from a mugger

Nadia would be another of those side characters.
Desmond's flashes are a bit odd on their own, since now there's the theory that those flashes were actually another timeline which would mean in the Island timeline he may not have met Charlie.

Desmond is definitely the odd man out. In jack's flashback he gave him real encouragement at the stadium

Another thought is the Jacob helped the main characters in his flashback.
And another thought lostees really had no reason to be with each other. In the flashsideways they socialized with each other on the plane and in the airport and thus were more apt to interact and help each other.

Didn't Daniel himself say that Des was "different" ? Probably not good to lump him in with the 815ers and their associated characters. He won't fit the mold!

Ha Ha Shannon offered to watch Sayid's bags at the airport.
Despite the 6 degrees of separation, there really was no reason for any of our lostees to interact with each other except for Shannon and Boone and Jin and Sun. prior to September 2004.
When they kew each other and it was during time travel Sawyer helped young Ben. Daniel told young Charlotte never to come back to the island, But again at least one of the parties knew the other.
