This season is an "Easter" season. Remember the pre-season poster?
The man everyone thought was the savior, Jacob, was killed by the same person he was trying to save, Ben.
Tonight's episode was Pentecost on the Easter timeline. After Jesus died, his disciples gathered in an attic in fear that the person they put so much faith in was not who he said he was and that they’d be the next one to hang on a cross. In short, they despaired.
That's what we saw tonight with Richard and Ben. They despaired because they thought that the man they believed in wasn't that man at all...
And at the end of the episode, Jack, Hurley and Richard arrive on the beach where the rest of Jacob’s team — Ilana, Ben, Frank, Sun and Miles – have gathered. Add Jin, Kate, and Sawyer, none of whom will remain with Smokey, I believe, and that makes 11 people who will fight for Jacob. That’s the number of apostles left after Christ was crucified. Add No. 12, Desmond, and that would parallel the even dozen that acted as Jesus’s front-line evangelists.
Now the biblical parallel isn't exact, and it shouldn't be. But right now, it's a pretty strong resemblance.
Can a back-from-the-dead real John Locke lead Jacob’s army? I’m just saying.

Along those lines, I liked how when Ilana came into the foot (tomb?!) after Jacob died she asked where his body was and Ben said Jacob was gone. Another sort of parallel between Jacob and Jesus.

Last week, the MIB echoed the Satan... I wrote this on my blog: In five-plus years of watching Lost what gave viewers any clue that the Smoke Monster was good? The first time we witness his power, he’s yanking the Oceanic 815 pilot out the roosterpit, killing him and then discarding him in a tree. It’s terrorized all of the survivors, and, it appears, all of the Others as well. It’s been a self-righteous bully, think of Mr. Eko and his unwillingness to “confess” that he had done evil.
So why have doubts about his evilness crept in to the minds of Lost fans recently? Is it his willingness to answer Sawyer’s questions about what’s happening on the island? Is that what has made fans believe that he could be the good guy and Jacob the bad one?
To quote Chad Ochocinco, “C’mon, son.”
The Smoke Monster is evil.
I mean, the Smoke Monster quotes the Bible to make this point:
“What if I told you you could have anything you wanted?” Smokey asks. This favor granted only if Sayid joins Jacob’s team.
OK, maybe that’s not a direct Biblical quote, but it’s pretty darn close. Here’s Matthew 4: 8-9:
“Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. ‘All this I will give you,’ he said, ‘if you will bow down and worship me.’”

But to be Devil's Advocate ;D
It works the other way to - according to Christianity you accept Jesus as your savior and you are granted eternal bliss (everything you want).

To make matters more interesting - both John Locke and Sayid's bodies have risen from the dead - Jacob has not

Jacob is appearing to Hurley like Jesus appeared to other apostles after he was killed...

Charlie after his death appeared to Hurley, does that make Charlie; Jesus? Eko after his death played chess with Hurley.

Well it certainly makes Hurley interesting!
Anyway, Doc Jensen theorized this season will take place over the course of three days. If that works out, I bet the best candidate will be chosen on the third day...the new Jacob.
On the third day he rose again.

I'm liking this.
Also one of Jesus' apostles betrayed him, Judas ie Ben, then hung himself. Maybe Ben is due to hang himself soon (hope not...).

Judas hung himself because he didn't trust God could ever forgive him for his actions. Ilana forgave Ben more or lesss, so he may be saved from going down that path.

I think he's on a path to good...he was basically redeemed in both timelines.
