Obviously Locke did because he could walk again. But what about The Others? Why are they so willing to sacrifice themselves for this Island? I think back to how Widmore so easily killed one of his colleagues in Jughead. Or how Mikael shot a fellow Other in "Enter 77". What is it about this darn island that leaves people so devoted?

They may have experienced something similar to what Locke did. Or at least witnessed such things happen to someone else. They may just have wanted something to believe in.
Island Fundamentalists!

Now I'm guessing The Others are all essentially people who were somehow helped in the outside world by Jacob. (See Dogen, see Ilana) But boy, the second they hear Jacob is dead they flip sides. How fickle

Yeah, they were all probably promised something in exchange for their freedom. Very selfless and sacrificial of them.
But I guess if they can have their cake and eat it too...they will.

To me it's like one big cult, they will do anything asked of them. I also believe that Jacob and MIB are the same person and these people don't care which one is in power they just want to appease the leader of the island.
