In light of Hurley being "the luckiest guy alive" in the new timeline, does that mean he was never in a mental institution? If he is so lucky, he would have never been involved in that accident that killed those people and made him crazy. Then he would have never been able to hear about the numbers at all, which would mean he had to have played different numbers to win the lottery. Or simply that he had to have learned about some set of numbers from somewhere else. Or even more simply, that he was always supposed to win the lottery, no matter what the numbers were. Thoughts?

In the Mr. Cluck's commercial from Comic Con, Hurley says he's been lucky ever since winning the lottery. So he still could have been institutionalized and only became lucky later.
But since the Island's underwater...and since it probably has been for some time.... The guy who Hurley heard the numbers from probably never heard the numbers himself in the first place. Which means Hurley couldn't come to know them, which means he probably didn't get the numbers that way whether he was institutionalized or not.

Then how would he get the numbers? Were they different in this alternate timeline or the same?

I'm guessing we'll find out!

Even if the numbers are the same - they may have come from a different - "more lucky" source - no clue who.
One other question comes to mind though about the "new" Hurley - does he still see dead people??? Hmmmmm.

If Hurley is so lucky, did his father ever leave? Did his mom ever give him problems about his weight? And also, if he's so lucky, did anything ever happen between him and Starla?

I think Hurley was able to see the dead because of the Island and/or Jacob (since he never saw the dead beforehand unless you think Dave was a dead guy), so I don't think he can now in the other timeline. That's my theory, anyway.

That's my theory, anyway. I do agree. He never saw dead people before the crash. I don't count Dave as he never existed. Really though, what point would seeing the dead serve Hurley in this alternate timeline? There'd really be no good reason.

Exactly. If Jacob gave Hurley the ability, it was probably so Hurley would be able to talk to Jacob after Jacob's death (which Jacob seemed to be aware of going to happen). Without Hurley being on the Island...what reason would he have to talk to any dead people?
