So, I was thinking back on Desmond popping up last episode, and how of course it was a little odd....
...And something about that reminded me of Jacob.
Now I'm curious. What if throughout future glimpses into the AU (alternate universe), we see Desmond suddenly appear and touch the other Losties that we saw Jacob touch last season? He's already shaken Jack's hand.
What would this touch mean? Not sure. Maybe it secures that they will never go to the Island. Maybe it ensures they one day will anyway. Also not sure how aware of what he's doing Desmond is.
But I'll be paying attention to any future Desmond sightings. See if any more touching goes on~

Surely if he just has to touch everyone he would have done it all on the plane, everyone was within a few metres of eachother.

Jacob had to touch everyone at a certain point in their lives to lead them on a certain path. Maybe Desmond has to do the same. It wasn't everyone's time yet to be touched.

I don't know either, but I like the ideas I wasn't too blown away from the season premiere but after having it sit and hearing everyone's theory's I think this season is gonna kick

I certainly think there is more to Desmond than we know. The "See you in another life, brother" seems more important now that we're seeing some type of reincarnation into our Lostie's bodies. Maybe he just meant the parallel universes he encounters them in but perhaps its more. He is one of Charles Widmore's rivals, but why? Is it really only because he doesn't think Des is good enough for Penny? Or is Desmond a rival in the big picture of the island?

Desmond has already shown ability to travel into other universes, the flashes he sees of Charlie's deaths must have been in a different universe, because in his universe they never happened (except the last 1... )

And I would bet that Desmond's first experience with time travel in Flashes Before Your Eyes could have been Desmond passing through to another dimension in which he could have married Penny early on, but Eloise convinced him to go back to the dimension he belongs in.

Okay so in a really not-at-all-like-this kind of way...my theory is sort of working out. Maybe a little? Teeny tiny bit?

i missed this original thread.. but i do think this is possibly coming true now, especially after Everybody Loves Hugo... Dez is the new Jacob? Is that how the show ends? He was the secret Candidate (108?).. He takes on Jacob's role on the island, and somehow this leads into the Sideways where he's touching people and leading them towards whatever?

Poor Desmond. He would be so pissed if that came to pass. He just can't get away from that stinking rock!

Is Des now touching people in the alt timeline too? I can't remember if he touched Hurley and he kinda touched Locke.
