Just re-watched Walkabout and noticed something: Locke gets knocked down by a boar, and seems unable to stand, as if his legs were paralyzed again. Its as if he has a gigantic inner struggle and then he can stand up. Do you think there's any importance to this?

Locke has many problems with his legs throughout the show. The glass that stabs him in the leg by the hatch door with Boone, the blast door landing on him, Ethan shooting him in the leg, falling down the well....
It's like at any moment his ability to walk again can be taken away.
I think it's all definitely on purpose. But the message the Island may be trying to tell Locke? Hard to be sure.

It seems to me that this keeps happening to remind Locke of his purpose on the island.

But what is that purpose? And why not show Locke more clearly?

I think that purpose is yet to be fully revealed. I think the reason it was not shown more clearly to Locke is part of the tension between fate and choice as well as the tension between faith and science. If is purpose is clearly shown to him, then not much faith is required. If you knew your fate, would you still be able to make the hard but necessary choices along the way?

You see, I think it's part of Locke's manipulation. He's afraid he's going to lose what he thinks he's been given, just like what happened with his father. So the threat of taking away his ability to walk again is one of the best ways to manipulate him.
