... My gut instinct after five years is that the show was much less planned out than Damon and Carlton seem to imply. I'm thinking something like: "Plane crashes on the island, weird things happen, eventually we find out its a battle between two greek gods, BIG FINISH!" and then everything else got made up one season at a time, or less. So, for those of you re-watching, is there anything that was pointed to more than one season ahead (discounting season cliff hangers to season opener tie-ins)? I'm the one who posted the above, and I just heard a big one on Kim and Aimee's "The Lost Initiative". They are doing a rewatch and they are up to "Solitary" where we see Danielle for the first time (12th) episode. And in reviewing the website discussions, she came across a Lostpedia quote from a first season writer, David Fury, ( lostpedia.wikia.com/index.php?title=The_Lostpedia_Interview:David_Fury&oldid=600815). It seem that originally, when Sayid asked what her team was researching when they came to the island, she replied "time", but the network got nervous and made them take it out. That's probably the best evidence I've heard, since they didn't really introduce the concept until the fourth season.

I'm not re-watching the show, as much as I would like to, but perhaps those who are could help satisfy my curiosity about something. Six episodes into the final season, I'm more convinced of the above than ever. If they had it figured out from the beginning, it seems there should have been something (anything!) by now that proved it.

What sort of signs are you wanting as proof, though?
I mean, I'd think the only way to truly prove it is to compare the beginning to the end...and we as of yet have no end.
Also, Darlton have said they've had the mythology planned from the beginning, but not necessarily as much for each character's individual story. After Adawale screwed up their plans for Eko I think they had to learn to be a lot more flexible that way.

Of COURSE they didn't have EVERYTHING planned out; it's a TV show! I'm sure they had some of the key broad strokes and adapted them as the show evolved.
