Well, it's no secret that Damon and Carlton have referenced "The Stand" is a major source of inspiration, and is a common reference for the show. I remember hearing when of the cast members saying that there is NEVER a writing session without a copy of "The Stand" in the writing room. That being said, I have made the decision to read it I am a huge fan of Stephen King, and have read a lot of his books, and I know that "The Stand" is sometimes called his greatest achievement. The version I've got is the "Uncut & Complete" version, that apparently has all of King's original ideas and components that didn't make it into the book when it was originally published. For those of you out there who have read it, can you tell me what you thought of it and give me an idea about what I'm in for Can't wait to start reading it!

I'd like to read it also, but I'm going to read the Dark Tower books first. I figure reading several separate books will prepare me for reading one really long one!

They are both EXCELLENT choices, and are my favorite books. I recommend you read both because there are some great tie-ins from The Stand to The Dark Tower and vice versa, as well as many other King works, like Salem's Lot and It.
As far as what you're in for, I don't think you'll fully understand the scope of it until you read the Tower series (if you haven't already). Nonetheless, great books all around!

Just passed the 100 page mark I really really love this book. I always loved anything Stephen King wrote, and according to him "The Stand" has always been by far a favorite of the fans. "Project Blue" has been taking names like none other and I can see how some of the characters relate to others (Charlie Pace definitely was inspired by Larry Underwood, their stories are very similar) Love this book
