I was listening the the Christmas Special today (I know i'm a bit behind). I was intrigued by Ohio Dave's theory that Charlie is in league with the others. (I think it was his theory, my apologies if it was someone else)
I have had some concerns about him since we have been watching the first season over (Christmas present to my wife). What first concerned me was... how come Charlie survived the crash? He was in the toilet in first class (near the roosterpit) when the plane went down, he went back and strapped hismself into a first class seat when the crash occured.
Charlie should have been only a few rows behind the roosterpit at the time of the crash (or at least in the section of the plane where the pilot was and he recovered his heroin) So, how come he ended up on the beach?
So, that's 1 point. Secondly, it makes sense that Ethan was using drugs to get Charlie to do bad things. In the flashback when he stole Churchill's silver box from. He cared about the girl but that didn't stop him from stealing it. I think Ethan hanging Charlie from the tree was when he had served his uselfullness and just a little more than Charlie expected, and that's why Charlie put 4 slugs into him.

If charlie ran back a bit farther than it seems, there is no problem at all, he may not have been sitting in the same section as Shannon and Boone.

The thing is, as much evidence as there is to support that theory. There's just as much to counteract it. My favorite of which being the fact that when Charlie runs into Ethan while Claire is going into labor, he cannot even recall Ethan's name and simply shouts, "Hey, hey you!"
I'll be the first one to admit that I have a bias. Charlie's my favorite and I really don't want him evil. But I try to be as fair as possible when it comes to theories, and I just can't see it.

I really, really don't think that Charlie is an other. I'm not in the mood to provide any real justification, but it really seems to me that a bunch of fans are reading way too much into some of his actions and turning it around into a "what if this was the case" to make it seem as if he is an Other. There's no real <i>solid</i> evidence suggesting that he is an Other, nor is there any real solid evidence suggesting he isn't, but the same goes for just about any of the other survivors. It's really just up in the air.
And Charlie is one of my least favorite characters and I'd gladly see him bite the dust, so no bias here.

I didn't mean to imply that Charlie was an other. It's that he could be manipulated by the others. I belive that he is a good person, (as we learned from his flashbacks where he was a straight shooting, non-drug using church goer) who was being used, and the drugs are his weakness. I also belive that he is remorseful for what he almost did.

I think there is more to Charlie than meets the eye, he's been too quite this season. I predict something big happening to him, But I don't think he is an "other".

Ah, okay I understand now. I can see that being a possibility, but I don't understand what it is that they could be manipulating him <i>for</i>.

If he was Manipulating Charlie, why would he tell Jack and the others about the plan to bring Claire to ethan, he does not seem, in the rest of the season to be back on it. I think that he is still off of the Heroin, but keeps the statue as a JIC (just in case).

why then would HE KILL AN OTHER THEN? but etahin looks a bit like his brother If Ethan was somehow controlling Charlie, and he got Charlie to bring Claire into the woods (not knowing that Ethan would take or harm Claire). Once Charlie figured out that Ethan was going take Claire he realized his mistake. Ethan then tried to kil charlie by hanging him from the tree. Charlie killed Ethan out of anger for what he did to Claire, for trying to kill Charlie and also to shut him up.. to keep charlie's collaboration quiet. Again, Charlie is not evil... he is a good person who is made to do bad things... He really didn't want to take advantage of Lucy, but yet he did.... David ~ |

That is one way that I could accept Ohio Dave's theory. Addicts can do some awful things to people, but they do draw the line somewhere.

jack landed in the jungle(it was originally written on the beach) but he was also in the front end (like Charley) and the plane left a trail of destruction so people falling out would let jack be in the jungle and Charley be on the beach with every one else
