Hi guys There has been a fair bit of talk around, about the centricity of Follow the Leader... Some say that it had no centricity, similar to 'Namaste' earlier in the season, while others claim it was a Richard Alpert centric episode, without the conventional flashback/forwardness... I can see it both sides but I'm wondering what you guys think? Some things supporting the Richard argument are: Whenever we were taken to 2007, with the exeption of the last time the camera was focused on Richard and we were treated to the wooshing flash noise, suggesting a flashforward from his point of view There were some rumors going around before the episode aired that it was going to be Richard centric He played a fairly prominent role in both time periods Some things against: Although he was fairly prominent it wasn't really enough to make it obviously Richard centric If it was a true Richard centric episode it would have been made clearer It didn't really reveal anything new about the nature of his character, or his motivatons... (On a side note this thread marks my 500th post! May not be much for some people but I don't post too much, and I've been a forum member since the early days, February 2006... feel rather chuffed now )

Yeah, I don't think it really was Richard-centric. We didn't really get a whole lot from his perspective.

No. I think of a centric episode to be something where we find out more information on a characters past/future and present. I think since this was more like the finale part 1, it is really just about the whole cast. Richard just happens to be in both times.
OMG I HIT 316 POSTS WOOOOOOOOOOO!

It focused on the three leaders, Jack, Sawyer, and Locke. It wasn't a Richard-centric episode, we were just lucky enough to be treated to more Richard Alpert than usual!

He played a fairly prominent role in both time periods I think you answered your question right there. For a character centric episode they usually flash foward and back in time with that character. Richard was the dude in two different time periods in this episode, so I would lean toward calling it 'Richard-centric'.
