They basically state that the compass seeming to come out of nowhere was intentional. They basically say that it is stuck in a repeating infinite time loop. I disagreeumption has been that this type of thing is basically impossible - a form of a paradox - but apparently it is ok in the lost universe. My hope is that the loop is not actually infinite, but a repeating cycle of time where things are stuck somehow, repeating the same events over and over with slight variants each time. I now am thinking the end of Lost will be the breaking of that cycle, finally allowing the timeline to move onward.
