As of now, there are so many possibilities~
On the Island or off it...before older Dan gets shot or after....

Depending on when his graduation was(how close in time to his freighter mission), it could be estimated that he was born anywhere in the early to mid 70s, I think...
Personally, I am guessing earlier in the 70s because I took the 1st piano flashback scene as being Ellie coming to terms with what she had (possibly) recently done on the island, referring to killing the older Daniel. She came out, seemed quite upset, talked to Dan about destiny, etc etc...After seeing the full episode, it seemed like that scene was her first realization of how her world worked and how the future was already laid out for her and her son.
Regarding where he was born, I would like to think he is an island baby as well, thus making the majority of Widmore's team directly connected to their mission.
A question that it raised for me was that if Dan was killed on island before the piano scene off island, was Ellie traveling on and off the island just as much as Charles was during their time in power?

Maybe the Others would leave the Island to give birth too, and Eliose just kept Dan away from the Island.
I like the idea of the piano scene happening soon after she's killed older him.

Here's what I think:
Daniel was born on the island to Charles Widmore and Eloise Hawking and there was a limited or partial evacuation of the island - because eventually Daniel's warning will be believed. The evacuation amounts to getting all of the mothers and their children off of the island. We know that Charlotte and her mother left - we might assume that Eloise and Daniel left at the same time.
Penny is the child that Charles Widmore had with a woman off of the island - that was more or less confirmed with the way that Mrs Hawking told Widmore that his daughter was in the hospital - the way she said it leads you to believe that Penny is not her daughter also.
Just a thought.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too...Daniel was born on the island but evacuated with Eloise. An evacuation of all the women and children would explain Charlotte, Miles and Daniel all leaving the island w/ just their mothers and not having a relationship w/ their dads because their dads stayed on the island during the evacuation.
Here's my question though...we're now seeing how the freighter people and how Penny are all connected to the island. Any theories on Desmond since Desmond supposedly is different (according to Faraday) when it comes to time travel? Anyone think we'll find out that Des's parents are connected to the island? Given that Daniel Faraday's last name is neither Widmore nor Hawking, I'm thinking it's safe to assume that although we don't know anyone by the last name of Hume, that it doesn't mean he isn't connected to either the Others or someone in Dharma and doesn't know it. Just a thought.

I think Desmond is "different" because he is the true wild card in all of this - no parents who were ever on the island - no connection what so ever before he arived on the yacht.

Except his relationship to Penny. Which Widmore never liked anyway.

Dan must have been born off the island, and here's why: In The Little Prince, after Miles gets his first time-flashy nosebleed and asks "why her [Charlotte] why me?" Daniel says its to do with "duration of exposure... the amount of time you spent on the island". The order of nosebleedies was: Charlotte (on the island since she was a baby) Miles (on the island since he was a baby, but slightly younger than Charlotte) Juliet (lived on the island for 3 years, prior to the crash of flight 815, as an other) Sawyer (crashed on island in 2004) And Dan never got one so unless Daniel was hiding his nosebleed, he must have been born off the island

I don't think he was born on-Island, but if he was maybe his not getting a nosebleed would have something to do with having Others for parents.

At the end of "The Constant" Faraday found a page in his notebook that said something like, "If anything goes wrong, Desmond is your Constant." So, he knew what to do.
