Ok we have seen from this last episode that Miles needs a body to "do his thing." What exactly went down in that first flashback where we see him with his ghost dustbuster? I don't remember a body there and it certainly seemed like he was communicating with the dead there. What are your thoughts on that?

Hmm, good point. I think Miles's power is to read the energy left over after a person dies, and can work either on a body or in the place where the person died. But I don't think that kid was supposed to have died in his bedroom, so that also doesn't work. Maybe he can read the energy anywhere a person spent a lot of time, but only once they've expired. But I'm just kind of making excuses now, good catch.

We are thinking the same thing... So I emailed the guys last night after staying up mega late to rewatch 4x02 and 5x13, never heard back, so i figured I post it here. Miles claims that his ability works better if he has a body in 5x13. Right? Something has been confusing me... 5x13 Miles says "What I can do has nothing to do with chatting with ghosts you nit-witt. It's a feeling, a sense. When someone's dead their brain stops functioning, which means no more talking. It's just who they were and whatever they knew before they died." in 4x02 he walks into Ms. Gardner's house. "Which room is it?" Negotiating price, "That was before my buddy at the police station said your son was murdered". "..no matter what you hear, don't come up". Up he goes and he unpacks a small vacuum, turning it on. He starts nodding and sniffing the room, and then says to the room: "You're not doing your Grandmother any good staying here man. You're causing her alot of pain." silence "I.. I want to go downstarits and tell her you're gone. but they only way I will be able to do that is if you tell me where it is... So wherre is it?" Something falls, he slides the bookshelf, and going into the vent. Get a bag, takes the cash, leaved the drugs. He's about to leave and them says into the room. "You can go now." He tells the mother, "He's at peace now." ------------ Something doesn't add up. 4x02 even seems to conflict with Mile's comments with Hurley in 5x13. That exchange in 4x02 sure seemed like he was talking to the not-in-the room ghost. There wasn't a corpse in the room. Not sure what this is about... On two occasions I can recall Miles also seemed to have the ability to know something about the "living" without being told. He told Michael on "Meet Kevin Johnson" that he knew his name was not really Kevin the first time we see them meet. He didn't allude to how he knew this, he just stated it matter-of-factly to him as Michael was boarding the freighter. He later told Charlotte that he knew she didn't want to leave the island, and said something about she was glad to be back to the island. When she looked surprised and asked him what he meant, he just sarcastically said he didn't know what he meant. One possibility is that he can read the minds of living people, too, not just the dead.
Anyway, just wanted to mention those two occasions of Miles having other potential "abilities." Of course, it could be possible that he came across the information about Michael and Charlotte in another way, but if this is the case I don't think the viewer was supposed to assume that.

What Miles does may have all to do with "reading minds" since he's only able to really understand the final thoughts of anyone dead.
I'm also a little confused about what proximity Miles has to be to the body. As a kid he heard the man in his apartment from a ways away, but as an adult so far Miles seems to need to be right up close to the body.
