A while back on the Lost podcast, one of the producers mentioned what I think is the going to be the end to Lost........at least to the island in the future.
They were answering a question about Ellie and the Nuke. One of them mentioned THE STAND and specifically the TRASHCAN MAN.
If you have read The Stand (and remember it), the Trashcan Man was a sevant that had a knack for repairing weapons. He falls out of favor with Randal Flagg (The Darkman, Walking Dude, Satan, etc.) who is the leader of the evil people. To try and become liked again, he finds a nuke, repairs it, and brings it to Randal Flagg. Flagg freaks out and tells him to get rid of it. At that moment, there is some devine intervention and "the hand of God" comes down and sets off the nuke. Three main, good characters die along with all of the evil characters and all of Las Vegas is laid to waste.
That nuke is going to go off in the future and the island is going to go away.
Mark my words.
