OK. So in the first few episodes of the season we see several folks (Locke, Sawyer, Daniel, Charlotte, Jin, and Juliette) skipping through time as they head back to the Orchid Station. Locke assumes that whatever Ben did to move the island and start the skipping he could somehow fix at the station. Dan says that it makes emperical sense that that would be a good place to start. At that point no one knows about the Donkey Wheel.
When they make it to the location where the Orchid will be and Locke descends to and ultimately turns the Donkey wheel it is safe to say that Ben, Locke, and Christian know about the Donkey Wheel.
So why in "Whatever Happened, Happened" did miles say, "... once Ben turned that wheel, time isn't a straight line for us ..."

Daniel could have since then been working in the Orchid, seen the wheel, and relaid the information and assumed that's what both Ben and Locke must have turned.
Or continuity error.

I am thinking ...from the ABC preview for next week...that we might find out why Miles knows about the wheel. I have 3 ideas on WHO could have told this to him I don't think it was an error.

I was going to say that locke could have easily told them all about it on the way to the orchid, but I realised he himself didn't know about it untill he fell down the well (ben had gone through polar bear hole, Locke never saw it in S4)
I'm guessing we'll find out, or it was an error (basically I'm guessing the only 2 possibilities..)

The only other thing I can think of is that Miles heard it from a dead guy and filled everyone else in.
What is probably most strange is that Hurley doesn't seem to hung up on that detail. He already knew. So maybe Locke was able to fill Hurley in on that part when he went around visiting everyone (although we never saw it).

This conversation def. is making me sure that DANIEL knows about it at least (his skipping record metaphor does seem to look a lot like how the wheel actually looks before locke fixes it) So somehow after the dharma found it (in the opening scene of the season), daniel gets down there...

We should learn more about Dan's part in it all... ...in The Variable, the episode after Some Like it Hoth.

I can't wait for that, given the numbers/equation havent actually been explained in the show itself, but those who know know that the changing of the variable is a big part of dharma/what the heck is going on in the show.

I think Locke told the Oceanic Six about the Donkey Wheel. And then one of them told Miles when they joined him on the island in the 70s
