In all the discussions about paradoxes and causal loops bouncing around on the forums, I keep on thinking about the "course correction" aspect of time travel in the lost universe. Basically, D&C doesn't say you can't change time, rather that if you do, the universe 'course corrects' over some unspecified period of time and brings everything back into alignment.
What if the Island is a 'pocket universe', a place where the rules of our universe don't apply. As far as I understand the physics (not very far at all) the theory behind these pocket universes state that they don't interact with ours. But maybe there is some technicality that allows it to happen in the islands case. That intersection of universes would be a very dangerous place. And maybe Ben and Widmore are vying to use that intersection to make changes in our universe such that even after course correction it allows them to come out ahead?
