Fair point. I would say that to some extent they must lie and that they have contended that the only canon is from the show itself.

If it hasn't been explicitly confirmed on the show, it's not really canon. And I'm pretty sure there's a quote from Damon out there somewhere, to the effect of "the only true canon is the show itself."

AH HA...Jorge said on the recent J&J video that knows that Damon said "everything on the show is based in science fact not science fiction...like there is no time travel."
...but, like Jorge said, you can take it as AS OF THAT MOMENT, there was no time travel...which is kinda true in the currernt storyline, but not the overall series. It all how you interpret what he said. Think more short term than long term. What they say is only about what we know so far, unless they specifically say so...those sneaky little devils.

I think maybe they are pulling a long con on us. Get the pitchforks and torches!

I think maybe they are pulling a long con on us. Get the pitchforks and torches! I've thought about that----what if the show ends in some way that says "you've all been had." What if nothing is what we think it is, and it all turns out to be a big trick (like, Hurley wakes up in the final scene and it was all a dream. I know they've said it's not gonna be a dream, but something like that.) I'll be really mad.

Something that huge would ruin any credibility for future work they would do. I really believe they have an end game in mind and they won't end it with something cheap like that.

I'm just afraid that what we think of as cheap, they might think is really cool. Like that saying, "one man's trash is another man's treasure." But, I like to think they have their fingers on the pulse of their fans, at least enough to give us an ending we'll like. At least, let's hope so.

I think they lie like Ben sort of lies. Technically it's the truth, but they know you are not understanding the real meaning. Locke didn't die on the island so maybe if you are on the island, if you're dead, you're dead.

Ok, I've done my homework. Here it is----an absolutely irrefutable example of Damon Lindelof unequivocally lying about the show in an interview: www.scifi.com/scifiwire/handheld/30246.htmlYou can spin the "dead is dead" lie however you want, say it was taken out of context, make excuses for what D&C "really meant," but this one is unspinnable. It's a perfectly direct lie. He doesn't say "as of this moment.....," nor does he attach qualifiers of any kind. In fact, completely contrary to Jorge's explanation, Damon is specifically talking about the future of the show. It's not just misleading, nor is it one of those things where he "technically" tells the truth, but leaves it open to interpretation. He simply makes a very plain statement that is absolutely untrue.

i think they partake in disinformation i mean i treat them like ben and never take anything they say at 100 percent value you because there trying to protect there show and while trying to give us some info but sometimes the littlest thing can lead to giving away a big plot point

I really have no problem with the fact that they lie. I understand why they do, and it makes sense. It's just frustrating trying to convince people that they do lie. You should check out the Lostpedia talk page on Ellie. I spent two days arguing with these people because of something that Damon and Carlton alluded to in the most recent podcast, which the people over there seem to think is the gospel.

It give them a little bit of credit...they said this in 2005 when the show was gaining momentum. I think they had the BIG idea in place but not how they were going to get there...I mean we didn't even really have a "Ben" back then. They were still creating the letters between A&Z. I don't care what happens on the show EXCEPT that the ending is AWESOME and makes sense. Dom has said that he was told the ending when charlie was killed (don't know if it's true). And his response was something like...it just works.

Man, in this case I hope they were lying. Because if it is really true that there is no time travel, it means something really really plot twisty, like Hurley waking up and it was all a dream and here comes the rescue boat to get them on day 2. Heads will roll!
